Take the fender off, tie a rope around it and drag it down a gravel road for a mile or 2. Then remove the front liscense plate.

It's looking awesome.

The front plate does look out of place....needs a banged up '66 plate....please avoid the bicentennial plate seems like 70% of older vehicles in northern Michigan have a '76 plate on the front bumper...or a black '79 plate.

Actually, I might have a '66 plate...maybe even a set of them, I'll have to look.

The front plate is coming off soon - it was put there over last Halloween to show it was licensed and registered while nosy neighbors brought their kids around for candy. An offhand comment on the neighborhood newsletter about making sure all vehicles are registered because "we don't want scrap sitting around" was aimed at me and another guy with old trucks.

I actually HAVE a matching set of 1966 plates that are registered with the state for legal use. The rear plate is on - since I'm working back there now. Front plate is waiting to go on. Aaron -- too bad I didn't know about your plates a couple of weeks ago! I've had these 66 plates for a couple of years, but I bought nice ones because I thought the truck was getting a stock restore when I got them.

So, now that they're registered, they'll have to be artificially aged too.

yep - not sure what to do yet: Clean the paint on the truck or wait for the new paint to dull a bit more.

A good scrubbing and a wetsand will bring the rest of the truck up a few shades. It's brighter when it's clean, but it will never completely match.

Try sanding the whole fender down. Some spots to bare metal and let it sit over night.

Another trick I just saw the other day is to hit the surface with a spray bottle of water and then paint it. After you done painting, wipe the water away.

The trick that works best is to start the first coat with red oxide primer, then oem color primer, then the topcoat. Sand down the areas you want to look worn, with the red oxide simulating the rust.

For now, I just want something that isn't a black fender.
