Somewhere in this mess of posts someone mentioned that a man's word is his bond. I still believe in that.

I have held stuff for sale for 'first callers' and been called an asshole by those with cash in hand.

I have sold to the first person to show up with cash in hand and been ca;;ed an asshole by those who lived farther away.

Moral of the story:
If you are selling something, somebody somewhere is going to think you are an asshole.

if I tell somebody via a pm, email, or in person that I'm going to sell something for $x, you can go ahead and know that I'm not going to sell it out from under you.

I know they didn't have an agreement, but what ohio guy did is pretty low in my book. And I agree with the OP, don't make an agreement and then break it, verbal or written.

Sure, according to our judicial system, he didn't do anything wrong, but according to the douchebag system, he should get life in prison.

Yep I see the comments for and against what being a Man is today. Honesty vs greed. To those who agreed with what Ohio Guy did, Were is your honesty. Looks like your greed shines. You need to run for a political office. To those whom disagree with what happened, Your a honorable person. You need to come and join the fun of 4x4ing.

This people is why our damn country is going to hell! They don't care about themselves or their fellow man/woman.

As the saying goes, "Do unto others as you they do to you."

I have made many dealings over the years. I have always stood behind what I say. It is my way as I was raised. I have had offers many times after I told someone they could have what I was offering. Never have I gotten greedy and sold it out from under someone.

As far as a deposit. I never ask for one unles I was right up front with it before promissing something.

I have met Ohio Guy and face to face, thought he was a very nice guy. Maybe he is. Nice guys finish last, Honest Men/Women are always on the top of my list. As for the people who agreed with what he did? You have nothing offered I would want anyway and would not trust your word for it.

There are other fish in the pond and I will find that other fish.

x26 on all of the above.

The guy agreed to the terms and said it was a deal. He wouldn't take a deposit and there were all other sorts of fishy things. But in the end he said it was a deal and didn't follow through with the deal.

I've met Dirty Ridin a few times. He isn't a bitch or a whiner, he's pissed, as he should be.

I've had something sold and the had somebody offer me more for it, but I stood by my word.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The younger generation coming up is completely fucked up. It's all about them and nobody else, they have no idea what Karma is and they generally have zero respect for others.

I'd be whizzed too, Dirty_Riders.

Not whizzed off enough to make a warning post about it, but whizzed off enough to never deal with him again. Look at it this way - your brother is probably better off not owning that YJ - who knows what else could be wrong with it.

You very well may have been posting that the transfer case blew up or the was no gears in the front axle or whatever.

Count your blessings, move on, and go look at some more Jeeps for your brother.

Absolutely! I'm pretty surprised at how many people are acting like what Ohio Guy did is alright. He gave his word = done deal! Period. If you wanted to get more money for it you should have waited for a better offer. You accepted theirs, YOU deal with it.
I sold a Suburban to a member on here, he looked at it, we agreed on the price, I sat on it for a little more than a month. In that time I was offered on 2 occasions more money than I had agreed to. I told the first guy we had a deal, so the other 2 were told it was sold. Peroid.
If your word doesn't mean anything you aren't worth a shit.

I think the people agree'n what Ohio Guy did is either A. just as dishonest as he is or B. misunderstood the jist of this thread. What it really boils down to is, Ohio Guy stated in his thread that he didn't think the Jeep was road worthy due to the fact he never drove it more than 10 miles on the road. My brother in law went with cash in hand intent on driving this Jeep home. My husband and brother in law thought they were going to Ohio Guys house to view this jeep and work the deal. Only to find out when they got there that it was his cousins house and Ohio Guy wasn't there at all.

A deposit wasn't left because the cousin didn't feel comfortable dealing with money. It was also Ohio Guys offer to deliver the Jeep for gas money and complete the cash transaction upon delivery which was accepted by my brother in law who made arrangements with my husband to be there as he had to work. So really all the cash in hand and deposit comments dont make much sense to me when I've stated clearly what happened, but maybe now I've explained better? Anyways on to looking for another Jeep 4x4 whatever.

At the end of the day this post was started really to prevent other people from getting screwed over by this guy its just a headsup he's a snake. But thats completely up to you if you want to deal with him. We wont be. It is a good thing to see there are still honest people out there though!
