Default I gotta try this !

make an air compressor out of an engine
Pirate4x4.Com Bulletin Board - View Single Post - "Build" your own air compressor?

seems easy enough pull the exh push rods and lifters get some check valves in place of the spark plugs plumb into air tank..
ive got a 4.3 sitting in the shed and a nice 220v motor in the garage... hmmmm

Just run the exhaust into a storage tank. Then you can just run it on gas like a normal engine.

yea i dont think that would work.. all that back pressure might cause a few running issues.. not to mention feeding exh gas through your air tools

If you had enough blow by in the engine then you wouldn't have to worry about lubing them. I was just kidding with my suggestion by the way.

U can also do something simalar with the engine in your truck..... By removing a spark plug and replacing it with a compression tester end and air fiting u can air up in an emergency on the trail

I've seen a few 302s set up this way. They will run 1" impact guns with 3/4" air lines with no problem. No waiting for the compressor to fill up the tank either. My father in law was telling me about an old radial airplane engine set up this way also, that has some serious cool factor.

Could you hard wire and use the starter to power the engine instead of using an electric motor and a belt?

Would you even need a cooling system for short durations of use? It's still creating heat from compression, but I imagine without any internal combustion that temps would be considerably lower.
