Are all 4.6L SOHC

bell housings the same. Another words can you bolt a 91 Lincoln engine in a 02 F150 or vise versa. I know there are differences in performance and accessories but I'm not concerned with any of that. Thanks RB

I don't know a cutoff year, but the early production 4.6 blocks used a standard SBF pattern before they changed it.

yes the first 2 castings of the 4.6 use a later windsor engine pattern. shared with the 5.0 and 5.8. the casting numbers that used the windsor pattern were F1AE and F2VE. anything later then those 2 will interchange with all other modular engines from the newer 4.6 (casting number F3VE and up) to the 6.8 V10.

Where do i find the casting #? I was hoping to put a 92 car engine in a 97 car but I'm betting the 92 is probably the windsor pattern. Maybe I'll change the trans too.

1991 was the first 4.6L SOHC in the Lincoln Town Car, then in 1992 it was introduced into the Crown Victoria and the Grand Marquis, in 1994 it was introduced into the Thunderbirds and Cougars. In 1996 it was in the Mustangs, then in 1997 it was in trucks and vans. The first 4.6L DOHC was introduced in the 1993 Lincoln Mark VIII, then in the 1996 Mustang Cobra.
