Default Challenge #25 Noir

Well in keeping with the dark theme (that no one posted in) lets try this. I've seem some pretty cool stuff come of a Noir topic. Lots of B&W stuff which a lot of people like. If you are looking for some inspiration search google's images section for noir photography. Lots of good stuff there.

Challenge ends Sunday the 29th, and i might also do a 2nd challenge for people who want some fall/turkey day stuff

C'est un défi très bon!

Bien que, quelques trucs de dinde chute serait sans doute plus aucune compétence allée jusqu'à mon.

We must all go through a rite of passage and it must be physical, it must be painful, and it must leave a mark.

Noir is typically black and white, shot in low light at a low angle with a wide angle lens, its also often shot using shadows for DrAmatic effect.
Like this--->

Its also sometimes a dark subject matter(things that are kinda creepy).

how are you supposed to get people to stay still for long shudder speeds, or are we supposed to pose things?

this could be fun, if I figure it out haha

Use a tripod and your "Shudder" won't mess up the shots.

You don't really need slow shutter speeds really if using a decent aperture f/number. My biggest lens is f/2.8 and with the right lighting and shutter speeds blurring should not be an issue.

The rule of thumb (at least from what ive been gathering) is shutter speed should be 1/X where X is the focal length ur shooting at. For example if shooting at 30mm 1/30sec should allow for a shot without blur. Mind you that you can slow this down a lot if shooting something that is not going to be moving, or if ur subjects know to stand still for a while.

If the shot is still too light, start upping the aperture, the higher the number the less light will be allowed into the shot, however the background will also start to become more and more in focus, not a bad thing if that's what ur looking for in the shot.

Also, if shooting in raw mode, you can post process some exposure out of the shot, and do a lot with the shot in photoshop to make it appear that it was shot as you wanted. Most dSLRs also allow for exposure compensation and flash compensation which will give you a darker result while still allowing for flash and a faster shutter.

Sure, i dont really think there is an exact look really, i just stumbled across some awesome "noir" work recently and thought we should give it a go The way i have seen it most times it has a real 40's look to it, sorta mobster-ish, very dark with accented lighting usually on the background more so thann the foreground. Either way still a cool shot.
