So... my 08 JK needs a new driveshaft already... - Great Lakes 4x4. The largest offroad forum in the Midwest

Dont let that thread scare you though. I still think the JK is a fantastic vehicle, and performs great on, and even better off road.

I have an 09
Its a lot of fun on and off road.
I too have had a couple of problems with mine...
Had to have the plugs replaced due to it rolling off the line with cracked plugs installed.
It also needs a new horn @ a lil more than 4K on the odometer,
it may be full of mud from its trip to Rocks & Valleys though
never the less its covered by the warranty.

Theyre not air, theyre electric. And with the right programmer you can get around that. Dont expect a programmer to get you any extra power either, it wont. But it is nice to have since the JK is a canbus vehicle (everything controlled by computer).

Dont do a CAI. The 3.8 does NOT respond to them, and you open the engine up to water ingestion. The stock air box is designed to take a gallon of water before any enters the engine. It works as its designed too. If you want to do an intake, Id go for an AEV snorkel with the ram air scoop. You gain all the benefits of a CAI, without the risk of hydrolocking. And if you get the AEV hood, you dont even need to cut anything.

I dont have one, but from what I hear the AEV model lets you do a lot more. And not just with the engine/ trans either. You also can control lighting modes, complete vehicle diagnosis, and even trite stuff like the number of blinks the turn signal gives when you use the lane change mode. (the JK will blink 3 times when you touch the turn signal stalk so you dont have to hold it while changing lanes).

The canbus system is actually pretty cool, though it makes it hard to modify/ work on your own vehicle. Id do some reading on the system if you know nothing about it. I was shocked as to the level of computer intervention with EVERYTHING in the JK.

Canbus Canbus

The procal doesn't change of the doesn't change any of the engine/fuel settings.

It will allow you to adjust the computer for new gears,
adjust or turn off the TPMS(+08 or newer),
Mulitple Daytime running light settings,
Turn on or off the one-touch lane change,
Clear trouble codes,
Help Re-center the steering wheel,

There are a few other things, but one of the coolest features is the high idle.
You plug in the procal and by adjusting the dimmer switch you can raise and lower the engine idle for running a winch.
