Judging by how many improvements they have made to SVSU over the last 10 years, I would say it goes to the colleges. Aren't most of the local school districts funded by the perspective counties and not the state?

SVSU has probably gotten thier money from the Tution of thier students. It's the same for MSU. I'm pretty sure schools are funded by the state and the County.

I agree with the thought, just have to say that both sides use these tactics. Take away something that will get the buzz going and people will start demanding solutions from the percieve bad guys, in this case the Republicans.
Well granholm obviously cares more about her and her husband maintaining that high salary than the welfare of our children. despicable and downright disgusting. the most helpless are the ones she harms first.

Shouldn't her, as well as the rest of the people running the show in Lansing, pay be a little more reflective of the state's economy?

Yeah, They SHOULD. But they don't. It's like the President of MSU. She makes I think 500,000 a year. And that's base. Granted she does give to some Charitable Orginizations, but still 500,000? I wish people up higher would open thier eyes to these kinds of things. If My wife and I can survive at about 20,000 a year, they should have no problem with even 75-80,000 dollars a year. Grrr...

I liked it during one of the sports lockouts. I was listening to a call-in program and one of the listeners hit it right on the head. "There isn't a professional athlete that should make more than $1M a year. Anything more should be paid-for-performance."

this is awesome news! Hopefully we will get rid of state run education asap, then we won't be the 14th in the world in school systems.

The school district here has privatized a lot of things like bussing, secondary staff and the lunch staff. All the same people have the jobs they did but pay and insurance have changed..

They have done that with a Few districts in the Lansing area too. The problem is that those people that did get hired back will, at least in bussing, get paid Considerably less then they did before. They may get insurance, but not as good as they would have gotten otherwise. Our district, fortunatly, looked at the long term costs for Privatization and it actually was better to NOT privatize. It's a Missconception sometimes that it's better. I'm glad they looked into it as far as they did. Not just because I wouldn't have a Job, but because it's finacially better. That's just my expierence.

I am more worried about the $51 million Jenny wants to cut from 39 districts. Why? Because I am employed by one of those 39.

As housing prices stay low, and people fight the tax value of their houses, it's only going to lead to more cuts.

There are too many other programs and extras that need to be cut before this.

and just think that whilst people struggle to make ends meet, the governor who has legislated fail after fail makes 172,000 a year. the state is last in the country, but 4th highest paid governor, worst state in the country yet it's combined state payroll is second to that of only california.

Unless it gets smoked by a semi truck, from the side, then it looks like a stick of butter (no pun intended) getting sliced (more like ripped apart) from a hot knift.

Do you really think the state or government pays for inmates to have tv or anything else? The prisoners pay for that shit. Everytime they buy stuff from the prison store a small part of the profit is put back in a fund called the inmate benifit fund and every year the inmates vote on how that money should be spent, tv, library stuff, recreation stuff and what ever else they want to spend it on. That means everything non essential to prisons. The only thing that could be cut from the prison funding is what is used to pay staff and keep the prison secure. Do you really want to cut those funds and have a bunch of assholes exscaping into your back yard?

yeah, but that still doesn't mean it's less safe then any passenger car out there. Put it through the same Scenerio. A passenger car would be destroyed even worst. No matter how you try and Slice it (pun intended) there is not any NORMAL passenger Vehicle that is Safer then a school bus. Also, in that case, depending on the speed of the semi you'd be surprised at the results. Another safety feature is the Body mounts on a school bus. With enough side pressure on the body (Like a Semi, or other large truck at a high speed) the mounts will actually break and the body will slide off the frame. Allowing it to push out of the way....to an extent. There would still be tons of Injuries and possible fatalities but the percentage of injuries would be less in a school bus. If you don't believe me, I can give you my directors Phone number. He'll fill you in on everything about school bus safety. :D

Well lets see. How about we have the inmates use their money to pay for their food, electricity, and heat like the rest of us. No luxuries. They pay for their stay and maybe we can afford to keep more in and not let them out early.
