DNR shuts down Halloween hayride

A popular Halloween hayride in Livingston county has been shut down permanently by the Department of Natural Resources due to what has been deemed illegal wheeling activity.

DNR claims that while it is OK for the farmer to operate a tractor through his field, it is destructive when a wagon is attached.

DNR is also investigating the possibility of fining the landowner for operating without an ORV sticker.

Wat??

It's the guys own land. HE pays the mortgage on it and pays the taxes. The DNR should have ZERO say in this - he's not destroying wetlands or doing harm to any animals habitat here. If there's issue with neighbors, the police should be involved and noise complaints/etc. should be filed. That's fine. But for the DNR to tell him he can't drive on HIS land?? That's a crock of shit, and I think everyone here would agree. Period. Again, if he violates business laws/etc. then the police should be involved. The ORV laws shouldn't apply here.

I'll bet you I know the DNR officer that initiated the "investigation" into this, if there was one...there's an officer that's been running around Livingston for the last year with a major power trip. I've never had an issue with this person, but know of a few that have for things the DNR should have no business regulating.

We have hayrides all the time . We have had the sheriff dept drive by and wave. I would tell the CO to kiss my ass and see him in court, We had one up threw the forest Rds in clare county and up threw Ross. on the pwoerline north of Merridith and even can across a CO. Later he passed us again while we were having a Picnic beside the trail. With no intervention at all. Some Co's need to be more policed among them selves so power trips quit. Now on private land even if charging the DNR has no grounds to walk on. UNLESS they observe some recless behavior that could cause injury then they can,
I could see a tractor needing a sticker on state land . It is not a state lissenced vehicle. So it would need one.
OH well I still like Pie .
