I have a seasonal job and i work my ass off and I deserve the unemployment i get. That's not to say that I enjoy doing it but if I'm gonna work 8 to 16 hours a day during the season. Why shouldn't I get some kind of compensation in the off season. If I could find somone to employ me in the off season only I'd never collect again.

Here's a thought, though, should the government be the one paying you in the off season? If you are doing twice the work in the "on" season, shouldn't you be making twice the money? Then save the money and use it in the "off" season? The whole idea of seasonal work seems screwy to me. If you do a job in one season, shouldn't you have another job for the other season? Do I sound like a conservative right now?

I understand that unemployment is there to help people in the event of an unexpected job loss to help them until they get another job, but what's with the seasonal workers that live off it, half the year? My brother in law did this for years and it always kind of irked me.

I understand what your saying. I wasn't trying to say your wrong. I worked doing constuction cleanup for 8 years and when Pulte bought out most of the other developement companies. We went out of buisness. Mostly cause they don't waste a damn thing. Anyhow I took the job I have now and just have to work my way into a year round job by paying my dues all over again. For right now in the off season I take all the side jobs and classes I can. So I wouldn't call that sitting on my ass.

I had to refile monday.

I couldn't get the internet to work and the girl I talked to said they are having issues.

Just call and file your claim on the phone.

I lost my job and have been busting my ass to find a new one. I hope you get the opportunity to apply for your handout soon.

But you still feel you are "owed" a check for not working full time?

Nuggets, your situation is exactly why I think we need unemployment. Do you disagree with my questioning of working seasonal part of the year and collecting unemployment the other part?

I don't qualify for unemployment because while I work for a full work day, it's 3 separate part time jobs.

P.S. I'm enjoying how much offense you take to me calling it a handout.

You "deserve" to get paid for the work you do. Nothing more, nothing less.

I'm curious how many people, besides Nuggets, have had the opportunity to file for a "handout" ? Many michigan workers careers have been unexpectedly ended by "downsizing", and "outsourcing". Just remember to stop and think of all the monthly and weekly payments that you may not be able to keep up with if that were to happen. I personaly will take a "handout" any day to keep a roof over my children's heads. To the point; get you're head out of you're ass before you post...

Yup, I was offended at first, then I remembered the type of person that was making the remarks. It's all better now.

As far as the seasonal worker crap, I'm going to have to take your side.

good. I know what kind of a person you are and how it must pain you to be getting government assistance, since you rail against stuff like that everyday in the political forum. :)

P.S. Contrary to popular belief, I'm not a bad guy, I just enjoy heated internet debate.
