Question Auto trans ? C4/C6/AOD

Looking for opinions on what trans to run. mild 351 for now in a wrangler.

C6- parasitic loss?

C4- leaning this way as it can be made real short but worried about future power upgrades?

AOD- strength?

So what would the last two hold up to power wise being built? I would go with the C6 just don't want to lose any of the whopping 250hp

e4od if you got money
c4HD should be fine, had one in my ranger on a 351w, no OD though

The C4 in my 73 Bronco needs to be redone but it was in the truck when I bought it 15 years ago did some time as a summer DD. I have been running a 300HP 351W thru it. It still works but could use some freshening up. A buddy used to toast a C4 every 3 months in a 69 Stang with a mild 302 but I would attribute that to poor trans builder/driving style.

If you dont need OD go with the C4. They can be built cheap to handle whatever you want to put through it.

Thanks guys, looks like I get to be like you Hag-gar and run a FMVB as the shorty C4-Atlas requires one as it removes the governor

If you don't mind a little extra cost the 4r70w is a great option. Programmable and extremley strong...

The C6 is the strongest, by far, nothing modern can touch it, but it sucks 55hp right off the top.

The C4, weak in stock form, but can be built stout as a C6.

AOD- Junk.

I would go with a C6. E4OD would be my next option if you want overdrive, but they aren't that strong and usually cost quite a bit to repair

I've been haggling over a similar issue, 351W and I have a c6 for it now but have a good e4od available but would need to swap out the tail shaft (which I have).

A c-6 with good parts is darn near unbreakable, the newer c-4 stuff is really good also, and almost as strong, but lighter weight. Find somebody that knows what they are doing with either one, and its all over.

What about a C4 built, with a gear vendors overdrive unit behind it?
