The whining noise is the sunshell, the splines are probably stripped out. The sunshell is considered a hard part and it does not come in a rebuild kit. You will have to buy it separately, they cost about $50.

You don't want to get a stock replacement. Get one of these instead. http://racetransmissions.com/store/p...roducts_id/692

Let us know how it goes. Also, I know a guy in Twin Lake who would rebuild it. He does good work and only a guess, but around 800-1000 to rebuild including parts. If you want his # let me know. He does good work and in certifed etc....

Another option would be to try and find a good used one. You could always rebuild it youself, just get a step by step book for your tranny...I am assuming it is a 4l60e?

pull the trans out your self and then take it in, usually cost me about $400 when i pull them and take them down to have them fixed

i will be pulling it myself and most likely rebuilding it myself being we have to rebuild a buddys 93 4l60e in a week or so and we have a exploded view lay out of how everything goes back in and have a guy at the parts store willing to give us a hand. so inless i find somthing diffrent i will be pulling it and rebuilding it my self, and buying an aftermarket sunshell so i dont have to worry about this probem again.

what should i be looking for and replacing besides the sunshell when i tear this apart just pieces of the sunshell or just clean everything out. also should i replace the pump and the torqe converter or are they going to be good to reuse the tranny has 158xxx miles if that makes a diffrence.

look over the gear that goes into your sunshell i have seen some of the splines on those get rounded off after the sunshell stips out. I would make sure all of the valves are free in the valve body just in case any metal got down in there.
