Default I know a guy that got a gun

? ? ? I want to know your thought on what this guy I know should do . . . .

He was given a .32 hand gun from his father that was his grandfathers at one time. You see this gun has never been registered to my buddy knowledge.
The question is: Should he leave this gun unregistered or get it registered? The worry is doesn't want to pay the taxes on it and/or risk loosing it some day if our gun rights are taken away.
What issues might arise if it's left unregistered?

He's new to all this and I'm not sure what to say.

it's his get out of jail free gun. wipe the prints and drop it at the scene - Sopranos style.

What do you think will be cheaper? Registering the gun, or dealing with what might happen as a result of not registering it?

I would regester it. I have bought handguns out of state before. All I had to do is get a purchaser's permit (free) and fill it out. They check to see if the gun is stolen and all is good. A non regestered handgun is jail time if I remeber correctly.

They may have changed things so this advice is worth what you paid for it.

I don't personally own an unregistered gun, but if I were to, I would be sure to know the exact history of that gun (have every day from the gun leaving the factory be accounted for). If not, and that gun has ever killed someone (you never know), you could easily end up in big trouble someday.

The question would then be: What would happen if it's found to be not registered?

If it helps . . . This gun will also spend most of it's life at home ready to use for home protection. Also maybe shot at a friends range from time to time.

Go down to the police department and tell them you have a gun that has been passed down through the family and has been in a box forgotten about until very recently. They will want the serial numbers off it and for you to register it.

it really is that easy.

if it's found not registered you would face felony possession of a gun i think. - don't quote me on this.

Ive registered a gun i bought from someone who moved in from out of state and sold it before he registered it in Michigan. no issues.

if you ever plan on moving this gun from your house most definitely register it. if the government comes for our guns loosing a family heirloom probably wont be to high on your list of concerns.

Keep it unregistered, it's only a felony.

I can't believe the questions that are posted on here.

Felony=Jail

And if you did have to use it in a "home protection" you wouldn't want your credibility to come into question because of a unregistered firearm???

kinda common sense here guys

In Michigan, a person "shall not purchase, carry, or transport a pistol in this state without first having obtained a license for the pistol," as prescribed in MCL 28.422.

Check out this site, might answer a few questions

Yes, the little .32 would be the first/best weapon of choice when the SHTF.

That can go both ways.......depending on the situation of course.

Doesn't everyone possess at least one unregistered gun.
