i think he is referring to how much air they got in the 80s..

pretty sure they dont like to get airborn as they go faster in the water then out..

What I mean is, there are a lot less boats. I'm not talking about in the past coulpe years due to our current economy. There appears to be actual racing, not one boat (Geico) in the lead by 2 or 3 miles...

Simple, politics, cost of boat ownership and operation, the lack of suitable locations to actually race and still be able to draw an audience and spectators, liability. Offshore racing has been plagued with too many regional organizations running different races, you have oss, apba, local grass roots series, superboat1, etc. lots of crap has kept offshore racing from being as popular as it was in the 70's, 80's, and very early 90's

Those are some great vids. I miss the days of the race and then the air show in TC.

holy christ how far back are you going when chris craft was in it?! assume your talking with scorpions?

as for why it died off, take it from a guy who has watched it from the inside... the drug money isnt there anymore, the marina/dealerships arent looking for ways to hide money, and the costs got out of control.. that footage is right about the time they made the switch over to kevlar hulls and prices shot through the roof. plus those newer hulls couldn't stand up to the beating of the old 24oz glass boats!!!

I have worked for at least two different marina that conveniently had fires on weekends centered right around the race boat... that boat would also happen to be the only boat in the building and it was locked up making it harder for the fire dept to get in
