Default Helped my sister take her first deer.

Last weekend was the youth hunt, my little sis took this nice 7 point sunday evening. She used my 300 mag mauser at a range of 125 yards, killed it stone dead.:smokin: the bullets were 150 gr hornady sst's loaded with imr 4831 loaded to 3000fps. the bullet went in at the base of the neck, blew through the heart and stopped in the ribcage.

This was her first deer, I was so proud when I watched that deer drop. she has been practicing ever since, she wants the 12 point that has been roaming our land.

Congrats to your sister on her first deer. I remember the first deer I shot, great feeling! I asked my dad if that adrenaline ever goes away (he's been hunting for 50 years). He said if it ever does then you need to quit

Where did you read that? I saw 300 win mag...which is still too much gun for deer IMO. Congrats to your sister nonetheless...nice buck, esp for a first deer!

My first bolt action hunting rifle was 7mm rem mag and has killed a lot of deer. the best thing about being a handloader is you can shoot a wide variety of loads at different power levels.

the 300 was loaded to the levels of a hot 30-06. look at your ballistics charts and educate yourself a little.
