Question Need Chevy 350 tbi Help Guys!

Ive got a 92 Chevy with the 350 tbi, everythings stock on the thing. it starts and idles good. When i accelerate up to speed its all good sounds alil rough but ok. problem comes when i let off the throttle... it sounds like it wants to stall or choke... almost like a light backfire... and as soon as i touch the brakes it goes right to idle and is fine.

Thinking its the timing chain, but would like more insight.
If anyone knows costs on repairs or parts that could be the prob i would greatly appreciate it.
Also what forum would this question get posted in just so I know??
Thanks

if you said it was choking on heavy braking I would say you were missing a thrust washer off your cam. the trick is your engine shouldn't have roller lifters so that would be be the wrong thing to suggest. I am thinking along the lines of a lean miss backfire in the intake? does it sound like a bunch of pop,pop,pop....pop sounds untill you get up to speed? if so I could be a wiped out lobe or two on the camshaft?

as for touching the brakes and it dropping to idle? that is you releasing the torque converter lock. it takes away the engine braking when you do that.

That would normally be Chevy Tech since there doesn't seem to be anything non-Chevy about your vehicle. No need to re-post it there. I reported your thread so that a Moderator who is actually paying attention will just move it.

Ok reset the timing back to zero. it takes off alittle better, but still when i let off the gas it chokes out and sounds like it wants to stall until it drops back down to idle then its fine....

Thinking maybe next is the EGR valve???
Also Would an exhaust leak cause problems like this to???

Nope, and that works bc it was on after i did the timing and unplugged the electric timing plug, but it went right off after i turned the ignition off then back on.

do me this, try pushing the gas down to full throttle for a second or so sitting in park. if it does the same thing(choking down) then you just found the problem. your cat is plugged.
