Default Hello from Milford

Hello, I just registered here and thought I would say hello. I'm currently "between" off-road rigs but plan to begin work on my WJ soon. I previously had an '85 4Runner and wheeled that in PA, WV, and MI some before blowing the engine last year. The WJ is currently my wife's DD, but we plan to replace that soon and then it becomes my toy. My DD is an '02 Dodge Ram Diesel right now, which I have run at Silver Lake, but not the best there with lots of weight and a manual trans.

I've already added a couple things to the WJ, including the OEM trailer hitch and wiring, front tow hooks, and JK wheels with 235/65/17 tires. My plan is to install a BB and 245/75/16 tires on the OE wheels and start hitting some easy trails to introduce my new family to the hobby. My first plan is to build it for a "class 2" trail - keep it easy on the Jeep, easy on the passengers, and easy on the wallet.

I joined this site for a few reasons...

Learn a bit more about the WJ, it seems to be the odd-one-out for aftermarket upgrades, so knowing what others have done will be a big help.

Find some take-off/used parts... I'm on a budget and I've already found a few things on the classifieds that I could use. Also maybe sell a few things I have laying around... to a more specific audience than just craigslist.

Find places/events to wheel! Probably the main reason... I grew up in rural PA where we could wheel on many private or corporate owned (coal/gas company) properties without issue. Those have gone away to my knowledge, and places around here are hard to find/know about without hooking up with someone in-the-know. Events like the fall color tour are really appealing to me, but will not make it this year. I've been to Drummond Island for snowmobiling, and would really like to take the WJ around there in the summer... great scenery. Have been to Silver Lake and the Mounds, but would like to learn about the full-size DNR trails in lower MI. Those seem like a great relaxing day, something that the family would enjoy as well.

Thanks for reading, see you around!
