yamaha xs650 chopper

i figured some may enjoy a build of an xs 650 by a total bike noob.


i picked up the xs from cl running and driving 12000 miles very clean bike




picked up a mostly complete parts bike pulled all the parts off and started chopping the frame for a tc bro's hard tail

Cool build. I'm building a xs650 chopper myself. I'll be lookin for some ideas. My dad bought it brand new in 73 and now its mine so senitmental build too. Good luck i have an extra 650 if you need parts too!

here is the frame with the down tubes cleaned up back-half completely removed

and now i have a sportster tank fitted thanks chadcooper for the hookup

hard tail installed

i will be making my own seat/pan this ebay one dosent look good.


my xs 400 tripple trees just got done being machined (thanks chachi) now i can run a 21" front rim with drum brakes to match the rear drums (got the mag wheels on it to roll around)


also may be picking up some new rubber (some vintage style straight rib tires)

rake is stock rear is dropped 3" and stretched 3"

today chadcooper will be tig welding up my hardtail, seat mount, tank mounts and a few neat little bits.


i need help finding a color scheme.
i have brown leather saddle and i would like to do my tank red (flapwheel wavemarks in steel then candy red over) but i dont want to run the mag wheels all black with black frame

so what color for frame and mag wheels with a red tank and brown saddle

low gloss black on the mags with a 1/16" candy red pinstripe around the rim, the frame in wrinkle black, scotchbrite the chrome thats left.

looking good btw
