Default Mounds rock courses; Any progress?

Has anyone seen, heard or told rumors of when the next phase will be in or begin?

It's sad to see all of the hard work put in by everyone going to waste because of the rednecks.

It was a nice dream while it lasted.... a competition level rock course 50 minutes from home... I guess moving would be easier, huh?!

I talked to one of the guys who works there about a month ago. He had talked to the person in charge of doing the course and said that they was going to skip building the intermediate course. Instead they plan on building and "extreme" course instead. He also said that they are planning on starting it soon and it should be done about the same time of the year that the other course was done last year.

For me i don't mind paying more to goto Rocks and Valleys. Plus it's more of a family environment.

Also if Bundy Hill Puts in place to be more like Rocks and Valleys i will be going there as well, its not Far for me to goto. Closer then the Mounds..

While I do agree with your statement I have to disagree on the larger issue. The developments at the mounds were supposed to be our yearly 16.25 ORV sticker fee coming back to us since the mounds is a government funded park. A competition level area at one of the private parks is a great idea but I dont think any of the owners are going to take on that kind of investment or risk of injury. If they do I will be VERY suprized and I will gladly make the trip to patronize a private park. In the mean time I'd be nice to finally get a return on all the money put into the ORV fund over the years.

I heard rumors of going straight to the "extreme" course but for some reason I think the "extreme" course will end up about where the medium course should be.

Without looking it up I'm pretty sure the developments were just about done by this time last year? Wasnt the grant 100k per year for 3 years? What's happening with this years 100k? doesnt look like much (anything)...

I think you or your dad should make some calls and get the gears turning. I believe you guys were semi-involved with them before?

i Agree what happen? who knows.

Also you have to look at what happen with the Mounds asking for mone money to get in for what?

They are not fair with asking people to pay more when other's are still going in for free. just cus they know the people at the front gate. And also bring in Junk car's just to run them over and make a mess. more like a Party seen then a family seen.

i know alot of Clubs has still gone out there but alot are now giving up on the Mounds. Just cus of that reason.

Don't get me Wrong the Mounds can be a great Place.

Right now there is more Parks being made and people are seeing the light.

with private parks who needs a ORV Sticker ( Money Saved)

with private parks cost to get in ( Money Saved )

with private parks not being so far ( Money Saved )

with private parks having more control of whats going on and how its being done if good for us.

Just in 1 year we have 3 private parks that have Opened and maybe more.

i know there is more on the way.

With all this said i think the Mounds moved way to slow for people who loved off roading.

so now people have moved on to other Parks. if the Mounds could Move Faster they might Save themselfs

Just saying

The Mounds is NOT a Government funded park. Where did you get that idea from?

The Mounds is ran by the Genesee County Parks and Recreation and is funded thru two sources.

1.The everyday fee's they receive from ORV user's that use the Mounds

2.Grant funding received from a portion of YOUR 16.25 0RV sticker fee's

They actually ''double dip'' the system by charging you BOTH ways.

This should NOT be allowed!

I paid 7 bucks this past Thursday and nothing has been started on the park. I did recieve an email about a week or so ago stating the construction was to begin anytime now.

It's sad to see how terrible the Mounds is run as compared to Silver Lake. Both government parks funded by our money. One runs like a well oiled machine, the other is worse than any private hillrod park. They don't seem to care if we come or not.

I agree that with the new private parks popping up and trying to find ways to draw customers, that more and more people will gravitate away from the Mounds.

So:

1) Run by the gvmt
2) funded by gvmt

but its not gvmt funded?

Once you hand your money to the government, its not yours anymore. Just like once you put your chips in the pot, they aren't yours either.

Exactly, the rock courses are funded by our ORV money. Yes, they charge a daily fee but they are still run by the government.

I used to be very active with the WGM group. They do not go around the park tearing shit up to piss everybody else off. In fact, we used to pick up the trash and broken parts and take them up front to be thrown out.

The Mounds is one of the nicest off road areas in the state. For 10 bucks a day to go apeshit without fear of being ticketed is cheap money.

The money to run this place has to come from somewhere, quit being a self entitled democrat.

Most of the people of the WGM group are great. Because they have some of the largest trucks in the state (including my Metro), they get picked on by people with "tire envy". When I was active, the group would keep an eye out for retarded behaviour and say something when somebody was doing something stupid. I used to talk to people all the time about safety and respect for other park users. Keep in mind that just because somebody has a mud truck does not mean they are a WGM member.

As far as rutting the fukc out of the area, there are places in the park for all sizes of vehicles. I also used to take a Geo Tracker out there and I had no problem getting to where I needed to go in the park. Just because your super off road rig can not follow a BDMT, don't get bent out of shape.
