Default SOLD M1 Carbine .30 Cal Rifle SOLD

Hello,

I got accuired this gun from my great grandpa a few years back. I do not know much about it, especially the value, I was hoping you guys would be able to help me with that. I did shoot the m1 a few times at the range when we first got them, it shot fine.

It is a universal M1 Carbine .30 Cal Rifle.

I do know I am looking for a Remington 870 Express 12 gauge or similar shot gun. I know I need to put a price and I will say $300. I really do not know if that is way to much or a great deal, I dont want to be ripped off.

Thanks,
Joe

if you can post some better pics i will take a look at them.

some things that are important in the value of a m1 carbine are:

-it has a the early no bayonet barrel band
-what is the manufacturer stamp on the receiver behind the rear sight? it will be inland, rock ola, national postal meter, IBM, saginaw, etc.
- is the bolt round or flat? if it is round it is a m2 bolt.
- does the upper handguard have 2 or 4 rivets in it?
- what style rear sight is on it?
- does the stock have any stampings on it? worth way more if it has a winchester potbelly stock.
- is there a slot carved out of the left side of stock next to upper receiver? if so it's an M2 stock.
- check the stampings on the safety, lower receiver and magazine release.

if it's the universal reproduction your price would be accurate.
a matching manufacture of original parts easy in the $750-$1000 range.
a hodgepodge of original parts $450-$500

Posted more pics at the top.

-I dont think it has a bayonet barrel band.
-The manufacturer stamp on the receiver behind the rear sight only says the serial, 105038
-In front of the rear sight it says, Universal, hialeah. fla.
-The upper handguard has 4 rivets in it.
-Dont know what kind of sight, no markings on the stock that I see.
-The magazine release has the letters, M W A, the M is sideways.

no the barrel band is of the earlier style that didn't have the bayonet lug. the 2 rivet upper handguard is a later war production as the earlier ones used only 2, but they often broke. the stock appears to be an m1 but the lower front area is flat which would not make it a winchester potbelly. the rear sight if early would be a L shaped flip peephole sight. yours is later but the the more desirable higher quality adjustable one. the bolt is flat making it an M1 bolt. (M1 and M2 parts are largely interchangeable with differences in the the M2 being selective fire in semi and full auto. the m2 stocks are a bit wider as is the lower receiver due to the extra parts for the selective fire parts)

the stock appears to have a gloss which would have been added later as issue carbines featured the oil-dipped finish.

here are some things that will help you decipher markings
B- IBM
W - Winchester
N - National Post Meter
RMC - Rockola
I - Inland (WI - Winchester for Inland, AOB - Auto Ord for IBM, etc)
AO - Auto Ordanance (sub contractor)
Q - Quality
SG - Saginaw
S'G' - Saginaw Grand rapids
IP - irwin Pederson
U - Underwood

serial number blocks can be found here.
