Default 89 yj auto trans??? what works?

bought a 89 yj with a 4.2 and no trans. was told it had a 904. looking for a replacement, or info on what other autos will fit.

The 4-cyls are 904's. You should have a 998 or 999. No reason to swap it out for a different model, its not a bad trans. Repair it or get another one. Its the same as the 80-up CJ automatic that was behind the 258.

Now that I think about it, since you have no trans at all...


Perhaps you want to consider an AW-4 swap and gain the overdrive?

727 out of a waggy is a bolt in replacement and pretty strong.

I have a 21 spline AW4, it may need a rebuild and it has been sitting for 5 years.
