Default 1999 malibu engine codes

Is there a way with the ignition key etc to retrieve a code in the odo much like a wrangler or do you need an OBD reader in the port? Help?

there are 2 pins you can jump and it will flash the codes, or swing by autozone and they can read the codes, or, I have a scanner...

dont jump anything! go to autozone or a repair shop, usually obd 2 doesn't have an option for "jumping the aldl" to retrieve codes, good luck, running bad or ses light?

hes correct. if you try and jump 2 pins you run the risk of shorting out the pcm. that would be very bad. you can only jump pins on a gm up till all 94 and some 95's

X2

the reason for OBD2 was to make all vehicles uniform, so a single reader/scanner would work on all of them (in theory), so there was no need to design in a way to retrieve codes without the tool.
