Cool.

I mean, it's not like the anti-gun crowd would use the example of an assault rifle toting nut job at a presidential function to scream for more gun control. No way they would think of using that against the pro-gun faction.

Sometimes, we are our own worst enemies.

Here is something to think about.

Bunch of people in a crowd open carrying. Fully legal.

1 nut job decides to open up, whether the President is in sight or not.

What do you think the Secret Service is going to do?

I can see many innocent people getting hurt during the effort to protect the President of the United States in this kind of scenario.

It has never, in modern times, been OK (albeit legal) to show up anywhere near a Presidential event while armed. Why should it be now?

Of course, if the precedent is set now, will it be OK to open carry if there is a Republican President next time? Contrary to the belief some of you seem to have, gun ownership is not exclusive to the Republicans and those on the right. And neither is lunacy or those on the fringe.

Shoot the nut job.

Am I supposed to believe that the SS would open fire on the crowd based on one shooter? I don't think so.

More likely in an armed crowd the nut job would never get off a shot because the law abiding and armed citizen beside him would take him out before the SS ever saw the gun.

What's even more likely is that the nut job wouldn't go into a crowd of armed and law abiding citizens to kill the president because he knows that he would fail in his effort and pay with his life. Even nut jobs have a survival instinct.

Anyway you look at it, the nut job, not the legally armed citizen, is the one who is making an unsafe condition for the rest of the crowd.

If the Secret Service can not identify the specific shooter in a crown, yet spots multiple targets with weapons? And if those law abiding people draw thier weapons to take out the shooter? More targets for the Secret Service.

You can bet on one thing, everyone open carrying at a Presidential event is being closely watched. So, who is left to watch for the nut jobs that are not in the crowd? How many secret service agents do you think there are? Sooner or later that neumber will be stretched mighty thin, and when that happens security becomes a problem.

What Mike said is exactly right. The survival instinct would kick in and you would say what they want to hear.

Just because you guys think Mike is a piece of trash (which I know he is not) does not mean that what he says is always wrong. Sweet Jesus you need to grow up.

Could you repeat that for me?

Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan said armed demonstrators in open-carry states such as Arizona and New Hampshire have little impact on security plans for the president.

Again I ask

What gun in who's face? Where did this come from?

The Brother was a person invited to the rally for the purpose of conducting an interview with a right wing radio show.

A publicity stunt.

He and the interviewer have been friends for a couple of years. Certainly not a spur of the moment event.

I'd say not much. They will most likely let the local authorities shoot him and stick to their job of protecting the President.

Of course he is going to say that. The Secret Service will never make any negative statement about Presidential security. They can't....for reasons of security.

A person open carrying a gun becomes a person of interest to the Secret Service. If not, they are not doing thier jobs. They do not depend on local LEO to do thier jobs. They will have to expend resources. The more persons of interest, the resources. Sooner or later, the resources will be stretched.

Of course, it does depend on how close to the President the people are. But the more there are and the closer they get, the more the security flags go up.

So everyone knows that the 6 people who were open carrying were outside the event, right? They were not in proxmity to the president which makes this a non story.

Yes, they were outside the event, but they were in the vicinity among protesters. That is still awfully close, and possibly on the motorcade route.

True.

I just don't think bringing a weapon to a Presidential event is a good idea, regardless of who is President.

No secret I did not like Bush, but I would not have wanted people carrying guns around his events either.

To me it is about the protection of the President of the United States.

Yeah, lets disarm all the soldiers in the area next time Obama visits someplace overseas, too.

"Now hear this. President is now on the FOB. All soldiers must turn in their weapons to their Supply Rooms immediately. You out there in the tower at the front gate with the Barret. Clear that weapon immediately."

To me it is about the President of the United States understanding that he is not above the rights of the citizens. If the Secret Service or local LEO's need to step up their game as a result, then that's what they need to do.

If your house is on a motorcade route should they come collect your guns before it goes by?
