Default tips on reconditioning a vintage boat motor

I was just given a 1954 (I think) Evinrude Fleetwin 7.5hp motor by my brother-in-law. He's never actually ran it, but the last owner said it ran when they last tried. Anyway, I'm just curious if anyone on here has done this before. Any tips on good websites or forums to check out would be good helpful. As it stands now my plans are to:

1. clean & degrease
2. Clean the carbs
3. Change the plugs
4. Change the gear oil in the lower end
5. try to fire it either in a large bucket/trash can or with muffs on it.

I'd like to repaint it too and maybe even put a new decal kit on it so it looks better.

Motor looks like this and will be going on a 12 ft. rowboat.
