Actually I have trained a Pit. That's where my feelings come from. My uncle had Black Lab we trained as a hunting dog then decided to bring us a Pit he wanted trained as just a "family pet". All went extremely well, he was a lot smarter than we thought he'd be and the training went smoothe.
We introduced the Black Lab into the training in order to have them properly socialized before putting them together in my uncle's house and again everything went as good as you could have hoped. We kept that dog, for training purposes, for 3 months. Then took these dogs in together every six months for two weeks to work with them on perfecting their skills. Then, with no apparent warning after 3 years the Pit decided to tear the Lab's neck wide open while they were playing in my uncle's back yard.
We have never had an issue with any of the dogs my family has trained over the past twenty years. From then on I will not let a Pit around me or my dog.

Well, at least you are a professional dog handler with first hand experience. Although, the pit owners will call you a liar or say there dog would never do that.

I am not claiming to be a professional, but my Step-Dad is. Working as his assistant at 10 years old was the first job I had. I did that until I started college. I love working with dogs, and hope to get into teaching agility and flyball one day.
I have been called a liar when I've told this story so many times. No one thinks their little puppy could do something like that. Look at the statistics, how can one breed of dog have so many "mistakes". They take up such a small pecentage of the dog population in the US, yet have such a high percentage of the attacks. It all must be lies!

And the reason they pass all these temperment tests is because they are normally good around people. But as I stated earlier it is in their instinct (even that of a pure, clean bred pit) to kill other animals. That is what they were bred for in the first place. I would love to see these "facts" that show how great Pits are.
I don't remember that they were "show dogs" but I said that they should be put down . . . any dog that bites should be put down period

Maybe you should bring your children home some hand grenades too. Those are fun, and save, if the pin stays in

The only people who have pitbulls are people who are trying to look tough with something to prove, think they're a badass, or are more then 11% ninja
In a few years this will change. Pitbulls are very cheap and if you visit college campuses they are the dog of choice. All those college kids will soon grow up and be respectable members of society and Pits will once again be a breed that lives with families throughout america. Case in point, myself.

I definitely don't feel they all should be killed. Every dog can serve a purpose. But don't bring a full grown pit to places other dogs are going to be, you don't know what is going to happen when they come across another dog every encounter will be different.
I do believe they should not be allowed in high density, residential areas. If you want to be able to raise a pit, do it where it won't have access to a neighbors kid, or dog.

This is from the thread:

Quote:
supposedly these are ribboned show dogs... my opinion is that they somehow reverted to their 'default' mode, and for this type of dog it is their 'gameness' (google if you don't know what that means'. At least when my dog reverts to her default mode it is to point out all the birds in the yard.

situation remains sticky, but everyone is home now. pup is laying on her bed but can't walk, we will see how things progress.

It appears that the best case scenario happened (dog and wife are ok). I do not want to tell the story here, before things are resolved legally, but someone was watchin out for the two of them, and we have AWESOME neighbors, 4-5 of them came to the rescue and i am certain that that is the reason the puppy and wife were not hurt more

but don't have the gansta cool factor of a Pitt!! Why get a mutt when you can have a pound for pound champion??

I have a staffordshire terrier which has everything characteristic as a Pitt but is supposedly awesome with kids and considered a nanny dog . . . I mean go figure.

Then I have a RedNose Pit that we took so she wouldn't be put down in a Detroit pound and is the best dog I've ever had. . . . better then Canon the Staffordshire who hates black people

It's all about how you raise them. Just like kids.
