what gear ratio in axle? 3.55 ? what size tires you put now? It worth to put 4.30 or 4.56 for get back power.

You'll get more bang for your buck by re-gearing your axles to compensate for the larger tires than to pep up the 5.8L.

There is plenty you can do to the 351 to make it scream, but to get the same effect as a regear would cost much much more.

The general rule is that if you are running a stock 3.55 axle, w/ 33's you should go with 4.10's, and with 35's , 4.56's.

x2 on regear. then headers, intake, efans, and that should wake it up alot, give it a good tune up and advance the timing a bit.

You can go to the junkyard and look for one of these era trucks with MAF. They have a 2 to 1 pipe for the intake. Then slap a good high flow filter on it. Or, you could just leave the factory box in there, and use a good high flow filter. Stock air box with the cold air inlet tube isn't that bad. Its more than these motors need.

How far are you looking to go into this? Whats your budget? I know a lot of inexpensive ways to get a couple hp here and there. But if you want to/can do more, then its not worth your time.

Still got emissions? Check to see if your emissions junk is still operating fine. Those really mess with SBFs when they don't work right. Hell, just check it for codes if your check engine light is on. If theres an issue, your ECU could be in limp mode which really drags a 5.8 down.

If this were my truck, I would do a good tune up(brass terminal cap, good copper plugs), electric fans, 1.7 ratio roller rockers(if I didn't switch the heads for something better first), a good open exhaust system, high flow filter... That would satisfy me for a short while. And I also agree with the above statements to re-gear first.

Do your basics first. Intake and exhaust. Better air filter and bigger exhaust. And yes a good tune up as well. Keep it simple

Gears cost more than a filter and exhaust. Gears are a good thing to do too though.

Goes both ways. Lower gears means more RPM's which would work better with better air flow in and out. They want a cheap way to get more and filter, exhaust would be cheaper. And a couple more hp's might be all they need to make them happy too. That's all I'm saying. Of course gears would be a good way to go too and locker(s) as well.
