You do not have to verbally disclose it, but it's probably a good idea and your best interest to do so.

I was just pulled over a couple weeks ago. I told him that I have my CPL, and have my handgun loaded in the top glovebox. I then gave him my DL, CPL, insurance and registration. He asked me to keep my hands on the wheel as he went back to his car.

I'd rather look like I am trying to help and give him all the information he needs, then just to hand him the card and make him have to ask about if I have a gun with me and so forth.

Nope. You are only required to carry the CPL if you are carrying concealed. You can still open carry and not have your CPL on your person. However, if you do not have the CPL on you, you must unload the gun and store it properly before entering a vehicle. Once the gun enters the vehicle it is either stored in a case, locked, inaccessible, etc or it is concealed.

Be careful of that in other states though. In Michigan, you can place your loaded handgun on the seat of your car. It is still considred concealed. BUT, if you are in Ohio, the handgun must be in physical contact with your body. You cannot remove it and put it on the seat or anywhere else in the vehicle unless you unload it and stow it as if you did not have a CPL.

In terms of traffic stops, you are only legally required to disclose the CPL if you are carrying. BUT, when they run your plate, most likely it is going to pop up a flag that you are a CPL holder. If you do not disclose even while not carrying, you put the officer in a much more dangerous position. I have and will continue to simply hand the officer my DL and my CPL and inform them that I am or am not carrying at that time. Why be a prick, even if it is legal. Give the officer a break and show them some respect. Maybe they will just forget why they pulled you over and wish you a happy day.

I figure always carry the license, and I won't forget it.....and always give the license to an officer (carrying or not)..and disclose when carrying.....so I won't forget it.

I have a feeling my girlfriend is signing me up for a concealed weapons class for my birthday.

We went looking at pistols today. The Beretta PX4 is at the top of my list right now

Hey guys, new to the site. Here is my .02 worth. Carry Kimber Ultra Carry Stainless .45 in Galco Kydex paddle holster high waist forward cant. I have the mushroom top that was mentioned and this rig works best for me, I can not reach SOB very easy. With my button down shirt, it hides gun perfectly.
