Looking for a DSLR

I'm looking at getting a DSLR without spending a fortune. Now my mom has an old Minolta SLR.... So i'm thinking of just getting a Sony Alpha http://www.amazon.com/Sony-DSLRA350-...943242&sr=8-21 as the two lens's she has will fit on the Alpha DSLR Or even the older model ALPHA as I don't think i'd need live view http://www.amazon.com/Sony-10-2MP-Di...9944403&sr=1-3

The one lens is the one that came with the camera.... 28-80mm Aspherical brand.

The next one is 70-300mm 1:4 - 5.6 APO MACRO SUPER SIGMA

Any inputs or thoughts?

She has a cannon DSLR and said if I got a cannon I could use her lens's...however I don't think she would like me taking them to silver lake or off-roading.

Honestly no DSLR is going to like silver lake or off-roading Not sure about the minolta stuff, but with nikon some of the lower end bodies (like the D40, D60) will not focus older lenses. Might want to be sure they will work with the newer digital body.

They do, I have done a search and people say they will work. A big reason why so many like the Sony ALpha is because you can buy lens's from way back.

Muskegon gurl: I would not be switching lens's while out playing around.

Has anyone used the Alpha? I wouldn't mind doing the Nikon, but lens's are more expensive and so are the cameras. Are the lens's I already have junk?

This I know..first dirty LPF.
The second one happened when I put a new to me lens on the body w/o first inspecting the lens for dirt/dust.

Some of the older lenses do work, but you have to use them manually , not all of them are compatible.
Which is kinda a pita if you're learning D-SLR. (like me)

Come back and tell me ur lenses love the sand when you get back. One grain of sand in the focus ring, or the zoom ring will make for a real annoying feel when trying to zoom or focus. Enough of it in there and it will just be like running sand paper back and forth on it.

I'm not trying to discourage you about dSLR, its the only way to go, just not for off-road or sand.

I hear you bigglk. I guess this is the reason I do not want to spend $600+ . With the ALPHA I could purchase lens's and not worry about screwing them up? The lens's I have will work with AF>

A Nikon will use older lenses than a Sony, so your old lens theory works there too and unless you drop $$ on a Zeiss lens, Nikon optics > Sony/Minolta optics

We just bought a Sony Alpha 100. We bought it for the same reason as you have mentioned. The ability to use older lenses. So far we are very pleased with it.
