Default Halloween haunted house

My group is going to be setting up and running a haunted house for the Lions Club this year, and we have already decided to go with a mad scientist/ evil doctor theme. Thier hall is basically just used for fish fries, so its one big room with a small kitchen, 2 bathrooms, and a foyer/entry hall. We are planning on making fake walls to split the big room into 3 rooms and a hallway. The last room will be the laboratory, and the other two rooms will be made to look like an old, uncared for house. We have lots of ideas, but want to pack as much scare factor into this as we can for the room we have to work with, so I'm just looking for some more ideas...

and small kids wont be going through the house, so the scarier the better...we are planning on setting up some games in the parks pavillion for small kids, and the Lions Club is having a party at the fire hall on Halloween night, so the small kids will have other activities to do.

got any ideas that can be put togethor cheaply?

x2 lots of pictures of obimbo, make your tickets $1000 bills with obimbos portrait on them, and call it the obimbo orio lab, because he wants everyone to be equal to him, and that means making us all half black!

moreserously though, one of the freakiest huanted houses I have been to was just hanging sheets for walls, an they used kids, dressed them up and had them running around like wild grimlins...

Compressed air is great fun. Low pressure jets in the dark suggest spider webs and freak people out. Sudden high pressure bursts at leg level are fun and have the bonus of noise. Keep high pressure away from faces (eye injuries, dropped glasses, contact lenses, etc...

Varied floor textures and surfaces are disorienting in the dark (mattresses, etc...).

Ditto shortened ceiling that require people to get out of familiar/comfortable posture - make them stoop, crawl, etc...

hmmm...good ideas, hadnt thought about that other then making the hallway very narrow so people had to go single file (which means the teenage girls cant hold onto thier boyfriend so easy)

as for the Obambam ideas...there is enough scariness in reality from that...and it gets to be a touchy subject in my group, there is one guy that actually thinks the Socalism Health Care bill is a good thing, but refuses to discuss it (I think he already knows I'm right), and 3 that were planning on voting for Obamarx, though the rest of us convinced them otherwise

I was kidding on the whole Obama thing. Wouldn't be politically correct to offer a haunted house to the public with (scary) political opinions inside.

You've got to have cadavers in that lab. Either use real ones and don't refrigerate them so they stink or use Nuggets candy cane. It'll give it some realism.

i was at a h.h. once and they had a someone who worked there on a table and they had done up his abdomen to make it look like the doctor was cutting him open whilst he was alive and as the doctor cut the patient was pleading for help and screaming. it was cool.

doing that one, but we are making a table so that the person on it is sitting on an unseen table underneath, with thier legs on the top table, and from thier chest up also on the top table, that way the doctor can hit the table right through his patient, who will be screaming and jumping around

might also be cool to get some of those rubber cut off limbs and hang them in the walkway so the people have to walk through with them cause they are in the way.

mattresses would be a bad idea, i can imagine someone falling and breaking a leg or ankle and suing...

"Jason" mask on somebody at the exit, chainsaw in his hands running, (with no chain on the saw) and you gotta walk past the guy to get out.

I think every haunted house has this, way over done - but works every time on teens

I was at one that had a wheelchair that moved on its own, may have been fishline or something on it.
