Default 1947 Willys CJ2A Tild Steering Column

Need some advise on installing a GM tilt steering column in my 1947 Willys CJ 2A, Would love to use one on the custom units I see in the Street Rod magazines but not cost effective for me. Has anyone done this and what is the best year and model to rob a column out of? Better if your in South West Michigan and would let me view your work but a few pictures would be great too.
Thanks for your advise, Jeff
