Default USS Jason Dunham

August 01st, 2009 on Saturday USS Jason Dunham was christened in honor of Cpl. Jason Dunham of U.S Marine, who was killed in Iraqi battle field in 2004, while trying to save his fellow Marines, to shield the blast from a grenade he covered it with his own body and saved two other fellow mariners, he was awarded the Medal Of Honor in 2006 by the President, he is the first marine to receive a Medal of Honor after Vietnam War.
An Arleigh-Burke Class Destroyer USS Jason Dunham is over 500ft, which was christened by Cpl. Jason’s mother Deb Dunham with a Champagne bottle by smashed the bottle on the bow of the warship. Cpl. Jason Dunham is among those six persons, who received Medal of Honor since the Afghanistan war in 2001 and Iraq war in 2003.
Cpl. Jason Dunham while serving in Karabilah, Iraq on a check post with his squad members, when a car carrying insurgents arrived near the checkpoint a man jump Cpl. Jason Dunham and started to chock him, the fellow marines of squad rushed to help Cpl. Dunham, when insurgent dropped a grenade, without any hesitation Cpl. Jason Dunham first covered the grenade with his Kevlar helmet and then dropped himself on it shielding his fellow marines from the blast, all three marines were wounded in the incident, the other two survived the wounds but Cpl. Jason Dunham died a week later.

It's the actions of people like this that make me proud to be an American and a Marine.
