Question Buying american?

First and for most I prefer to buy anything I need to be made in USA and as we all know that is very hard.

I was just reading a blog about Detroit unions might go on strike and one of the posters said just keep buying at walmart, because you are not supporting American's?

Here is my question, where do these people that raise hell about buying American get there products?

I went to the sporting goods store the other day and was going to buy a fishing pole. Guess what Every last one was made in CHINA, even the $200 g-lumis.

American built products are so few and far between, how else is a person supposed to shop?

If I go to sears,JcPenny,autozone,Murray's,Best Buy,Gander mountain,ETC

95% is made out side of the USA.

I want to support the American work just as much as the next guy, but how do you do it?

Sure I can support the local guy who is selling product, but if it is made in china I am only supporting half the sale.

Is it possible that in our lifetime that things will turn around and products that everyday people want and need will be made here in the United states like it was in the past?

Did you know that 47.3% of Statstics are made up on the spot? ;-)

I buy products made in the U.S.A when ever I can. If I am in a store and I have a choice between buying the one that was made in the U.S.A and not, I buy the U.S.A made product almost every time, even if it costs more. It takes a lot of flipping items over before you get a good handle on which things are made in the U.S.A and which are not.

I also shop at mom and pop shops and try to buy things as local to me as possible. We buy as much produce as we can from local farmers. The closer to home the better.

If you had trouble finding a fishing pole made in the USA, there are sites available that have only USA manufactures listed for all types of things. I don't have them saved---but I am sure a quick google search can get you to where you need to go.

Thanks

Just trying to do my part to make people aware that we can make a difference

If I cant afford to buy something new that is made in the U.S.A, I will buy it used and then the money goes to someone here and they can use the money to help them selves with what they need to do:

I myself have had a hard time buying American products. I went out to buy a recip-saw and it took for ever to find one that said maid in America. My In-laws have tried to buy canned foods made in America and they are finding it almost impossible. With all of the toxins and and problems I have heard on the news, about items made in China. I know I am looking at all labels! It's also a problem with labels. I thought there was a law that required all items to have the place of manufacture on the label. Take a look at your toothpaste tube, I have gone through several brands, only to find that a few state a location, but most only list a distribution point.

I always find it funny UAW ragging on Wal-mart, doesn't the Mattel toy Wal-mart sell come from the same place Meijers gets them from? Or does Wal-mart get the ones from sweatshops and not Meijers. Still it is hard to find something made in America. I only buy Red Wing and HH for boot both made in the U.S.

this site is interesting. http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2...-plants-4.html shows the location of assembly and where the engines and transmissions come from.

What is even more funny is all of the union stickers on vehicles sitting in the Wal-Mart parking lot.

Food for thought. While looking at a box of remmington 30-06 ammo i noticed the Rock Tenn logo. My father works for Rock Tenn and was happy to know remmington uses the paperboard he helps make.

USA

not really surprising, however, the japbashers might not be willing to admit that the Honda Accord's Engine, and Transmission as well as the Final Assembly are here in the US...

they'll spout some drivel about how "the profits go to Japan" yet they would never have the audacity to use similar comments about profits going to Germany when Chrysler's profits (and equity) were milked dry by Daimler not that long ago...

Not all red wing boots are made here anymore. Jim bought a pair of their motorcycle boots awhile back and they were made in China.

I've heard the unions target Walmart because it's non union. But the union's are now the owner's...so who are they really looking out for?

I would like to find anything that is all built in the North Americia ( US and Canada) If you can find that post it up. Now this includes what it is made of. Besides food and wood products. Where in the whole process of that product that has not cross a border excluding the Canadain or sea.

I'm pretty much past the whole Made In America thing.
If I had the choice between a Chinese or American product, of course I'm going to go for the American one... But I'm not going to be spending my days tracking down things still made here.

Heck... I drive a German car that was built in Mexico,
My iMac was built somewhere I dont have a clue,
ETC...

I find it best to do the exact opposite of whatever unions tell me to do.
