Default Looking at 92 Crew 7.3 international

I am looking to replace my current two rig

1992 F250 std cab 8ft box 5.8L E4OD 4x4 4.10s

with a

1992 F350 Dually Crew 7.3 non-turbo 5spd 2wd

Both are about at 220K, The f250 just doesn't have the power for towing my pick-up camper and trailer with the truggy on it.

What should i know about the Dually, I am not a diesel guy by any means. Is the non-turbos really any better towing? What should i look for as far as the motor and trans and stuff for reliability?

I had good luck pulling a 10,000lb skid loader with the old 7.3NA F450 I had. It was a 5spd, 4.10 gear. There were some hils that were a challenge, but overall it did well. BTW, I might have a '95 f350 Stroker crew dually 2wd up for sale soon.. $4k.

I gotta sell some shit first and it'll depend on how far i can get him down on the price. I drove it today....other then the blown rear brake line it didn't seem to bad. Clutch was pretty stiff though.

Non turbos will tow better than your 5.8 and will get double the fuel milage. With my turbo'd 6.9 i got around 8.5-9 mpg pulling 2 rigs and a 25ft gooseneck over to R&V on saturday. Not bad for the way i drive it.

I have the same truck but a 1994 version. I too went from a 4x4 to a 2wd. I'm here to tell you that 2wd duallys suck in the slightest mud or snow.

I do like my truck though. I have the IDI turbo with a turned up pump. I went over the Z-bridge the other day with 15K of trailer and still maintained 65 mph. Unloaded on the highway I've managed to get 15 mpg, loaded it gets 9-10 mpg.

Wasn't real impressed with it....

Pretty much the entire time driving it never stopped blowing black, It needs lots of little love..

The exhaust is horrible rotten pipe that is only like 2.25 or 2.5" dia and the muffler is like a muffler man special on it. The LF tire seperated a belt on the way home today, Needs glow plugs, a carrier bearing on the driveshaft and poss a ujoint. Trans is kinda loud in 4th gear.

Oh and the tach doesn't work.....that made it fun trying to guess what my rpms were.

But overall doing 70 mph I got around 8-9mpg towing the truggy.

If you are still looking for one I have one for sale. I am by 84th and Division so not far from Middeville. If you are interested shoot me a PM.

I have been dealing with these Ford Diesels for years and know a lot about them.

The one that I have is a 1992 F350 Crew Cab Dually, rust free southern truck. Faded red paint, lots of Stainless steel acceseries, and nice aftermarket alloy wheels. Fully loaded, 7.3 diesel 5 sp 4:10 LS 150K miles. I would let it go for around $4K

I can e-mail you some pics, just let me know.

Also if you find another truck that you are interested I would be glad to take a look at it for you and give you my sort of professional opinion.

Let me know,
Darrin
