Yep, pretty sad.

A waste of a lot of tax payers dollars.

I am sure it is one of many, many pork projects over the past decade or more from both sides of the aisle.

For too long this has been business as usual in Washington, sadly it is not anything new.

Not to defend John Murtha or pork barrel spending, but that report was very deceptive. It only talked about the few commercial flights a day and lead you to believe that was all that was happening there. The above numbers show there the actual average number of "operations" (I assume that means takeoffs and landings) was around 150 a day, mostly general aviation and military.

Your kidding right?
Your not defending John Murtha but you post stuff with the note "I assume that means" in other words You don't know but this proves the report was deceptive.

The point is that there is more going on at that airport than just the 3 commercial flights a day, so yes, this proves that the report was deceptive.

Is this a military base or a civilian airport? (rhetorical question). I know we fund the military but, if the military uses this FAR more than the civilian sector why didnt they pay for it instead of ol jack's pork pockets.

by the looks of the flight schedule on their website http://www.flyjohnstownairport.com/p...t-schedule.htm they really only have 6 flights daily. 3 arrivals from DC and 3 departures to DC. apparently though, there are some Nat'l Guard and reserve units there. Still seems like a waste.

Have any of you ever heard the term "general aviation". Do you have any idea what it means?

does "general aviation" NEED facilities of that caliber? just a thought, if you can show me a NEED for said level of amenities I woud feel much better about it. Until then, it looks like one of uncle johns pork projects.

That being said, I have an issue with pork in general no just Dems pork.

I agree. I was just trying to point out the deception in the report. I do not think it was good honest reporting.

What is the deception in this story?

Murtha got $150 million of pork for this airport. It is so small it has three flights in and three flights out daily. They average 20 people flying out daily. The government subsidizes the flights.

If you look at the airport website all of the military came after the fact. Why wouldn't they, there is a brand new state of the art empty airport.

Its a good thing they are getting $800,000 of stimulus money. Maybe they are going to hire a bunch more TSA people to staff the airport. This whole airport is a great example of the stupidity we have in Washington. I am not Dem bashing, the Repubs are just as bad these days.

The deception it that theres a lot more going on at that airport than 3 scheduled commercial flights with 20 people each day.

Does the "alot more going on" warrant tax dollars. I know you already said you assumed so you really don't know, but how many of those flights are just hobby pilots? How much of the "alot going on" is the same"alot going on" at fifty million mom and pop runways across the U.S. that don't get any money from the government.
You know you may be right, that may have been deceptive in that they where to easy on the liberal bloodsucker.

First off, it's "a lot" two words, "alot" is not a word. Normally I wouldn't care but if you're quoting me please get it right.

You're right, I have no flipping idea how many tax dollars, if any are warranted for this type of airport. I do not know how this airport compares to other airports as far as tax dollars spent vs. activity. I do not know how much of the activity at this airport is just hobby flights. I do know that airports do serve a public good, as emergency landing spots and for emergency travel into the area. How many, if any tax dollars this warrants I don't know.

My only point, and as this is the fourth time stating it I'm type real slow in big letters so you can all follow along is:

I am not defending the spending of tax dollars on this airport. I feel the reporting in the video was deceptive, as they lead the viewer to believe that the 3 commercial flights going in and out of this airport is the only activity at this airport, which is just not true.
