Default 2009 suv?

If you was looking to get a brand new SUV 4x4 what would you get and why? My mother needs one to replace an aging front wheel drive mini van before winter. She needs 4x4 where she lives because she got stuck at least 10 times last winter. She also needs room for all the grand kids and a 3rd seat if possible. I am kinda leaning on pushing her to get a 2009 Toyota Sequoia.

Can get good deals on GM's right now so a 2009 Acadia or Saturn Outlook might be a choice as well.

Right...I guess they categorize them as a cross over, probably trying to shake the SUV gas guzzling image. But the thing looks like an SUV to me

the body on the acadia is nicely built and designed but the powertrain is a flaming hunk of shit, it needs a talented person to redo the engine and trans calibrations and a tighter torque converter.

if you can find them, 2009 trailblazers are going very cheap because they are being made with over run parts and then they are done. an equinox isnt a bad vehicle, take your pick, they are all the same but different.

I wouldn't call them tight, I have been in a few Lambdas and all had more than their share of rattles.

we really wanted to get the traverse. (same platform as the acadia) and they are nice. maybe someone can pipe in on how much of the drivetrain is shared between the two.

econo box or fullsize? I'd go with the fullsize option if its possible - great deals can be had on used tahoes and suburbans in excellent shape.

She is going to need a mid to full size...like I said it has to have the 3rd row seat, she needs the space and people capacity of the Mini Van she is replacing. Actually an AWD Mini Van would be a good choice for her but do they make any 2009's with AWD?

Toyota Sienna is AWD. Ours does extremely well on our unplowed roads. But the Run-Flats suck.

I'd go with the Sienna, if you want van, Traverse if you want crossover suv, or a Taho if you wanted truck suv.

She has a Sienna right now it's a 2000 but only front wheel drive...it has been a good van over the last 8 years she had it I only had to replace a bad wheel bearing and do a brake job once. That would probably be the best vehicle for her...what kind of real world MPG are you getting with the AWD version. Have you had any major issues with it?

My aunt and uncle just bought a Traverse. I like it, big and room, 3rd row.

If it were me. I'm all about a brand new Suburban. Thats what my parents are looking at.

Expedition, I'm going to go look at an 09 limited today. Either that or a Tahoe, I love how both of them look.
