Default U know your country?

Ours and others countries are poisoning the middle east and our own troops with depleted Uranium that's going to make agent orange look like we went over to vietnam and handed out pixie sticks. We all concentrate on the song and dance in washington like good sheep and willingly delude ourselves about what's going on. Discuss if you wish

You're government property when you put on the uniform, can't sue for any wrongdoing and the Military Industrial Complex trumps all. It provides jobs in nearly every congressional district, you see. Can't vote against them and get re-elected you see

I don't care about the politicians. We all know they're going to hell. I'm talking about the near future when our veterans start dropping like flies, and how history will judge our apparent genocide

Quite the accusation.

Have any proof?

I know there is depleted uranium used ammunition. I know it is out there in the war zones. But can you back what you are saying for the sake of this conversation?

What part of depleted uranium don't you understand? You admit to knowing our troops are exposed to it, do you want to sprinkle some on your eggs every morning? A very high percentage of troops exposed to it are permantly damaged, in agonizing pain, and bleed out everywhere.

These are the types of things I would like to see some information on.

See, you are missing my point (I was not clear enough). I agree with you that there is a problem. I am not arguing that. All I am asking for is more information as in links to stories or data that back this up.

Too often in our society people say things and others run with is, without a single fact or figure being presented. This is how so much becomes so distorted in the news cycle. A story like this can easily morph into total BS unless some facts and links are planted to anchor the discussion to.
A statement, without follow up is a common tactic on talk radio and television to get people wagging tongues without a clue what the facts actually are.

So, please, all I am asking is that you provide some links we can all look at so we can all be on the same page.

I'll provide some links when I get a chance to, in the meantime consider that this is not reported on in the slightest bit by the so called "media" They keep our minds cluttered with the horrible waterboarding of a couple of terrorists, or mj dying, or Obama calling police stupid. Even the fair and balanced fox news won't touch this, because they're just as owned as the rest of them. They just offer an "opposing view" to keep up the entertainment value.

Here watch this video. I have to watch it every year because I am a Munitions Journey man in the United States Air Force. If you are so concerned about our well being you will take 14 very boring minutes of your life and watch this DU safety video. Also the use of DU rounds has decreased in recent years. I have been to Iraq and Afghanistan with the A-10s from battle creek and we didn't fire 1 DU round. We used HEI ( High Explosive Incendiary ) and tracer combat mix.

Wow, yeah thanks dan71cj. A us army training video stating that depleted uranium is "relatively unharmful" and that you can cover it up with cardboard and duct tape makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. Are you kidding me? You should be more concerned about this, as many servicemen are dying from it, and whether you like any of the natives of the middle east or not, nobody deserves that shit.

It's radioactive. Sprinkle some on your eggs every morning since you seem to think it's safe. Shit, feed it to your kids. Moron

Depleted uranium or DU is a byproduct of the uranium enrichment process to make nuclear fuel. It's primarily U-238, as opposed to U-235 used for fuels and weapons.

It's about 40% less radioactive than naturally-occurring uranium, most of the activity having been removed in the enrichment process. It's extremely dense, and like others in the "heavy metals" family (lead, arsenic, mercury) it poses health risks when consumed or inhaled.

However, like most environmental hazards, the risk comes from chronic exposure - i.e. repeated exposure over a long period. Smoke inhalation from a fire (i.e. acute exposure) doesn't give you lung cancer - but smoking for 20 years can. Doing a brake job once every two years with asbestos brake pads = acute, but working 8 hours a day for 10 years installing loose asbestos insulation = "chronic".

It's high density makes it an excellent armor-piercing projectile, which is how it's generally used. It's very low level of radioactivity (lower than natrually-occurring uranium) has nothing to do with it's battlefield application - it's about the density.

There's a lot of controversy around DU because the term "uranium" has a lot of emotional impact, especially among the uninformed.

Cliffs Version: Heavy, dense metals like lead and DU make good armor-piercing ammunition. Breathing dust from said metals is bad for your health.

btw, talcum powder is radioactive, as is the soil in your backyard.

Which part of my reply lead you to believe that I thought depleted uranium was safe to sprinkle on my eggs every morning? I was merely taking a little light hearted poke at your apparent feeling that as soon as we see the word "uranium" we should don hazmat suits and run for the hills.

If you really want to further awareness of the potential dangers you would be further head if you used replies such as mine as an opening to discuss the fact that while depleted uranium has been depleted of some of its radiation it does still possess some level of radioactivity, and that while studies suggest that it is safe those studies may not have adequately considered what happens in war zones.

Your stupid suggestion that just because I don't become freighted at the very thought of "depleted uranium" means I thing it's safe enough to be used as a flavoring for my eggs does nothing to further your cause. Another substance commonly used in the same applications as depleted uranium is lead. Do you think lead is safe? Will you begin using lead as a topping for your eggs?

"slippery slope" arguments and name calling will get you no where.

Looks like someone found a term on the internet they didnt understand, and is now making rash, uneducated, dr amatized and ignorant accusations.

Why not google the term "radon gas" like you did "depleted uranium."

(OMG I just said "uranium"!!!)

The problem is that you all believe what you want to believe. Did you read any of the links I posted? Do you deny completely that it's killing soldiers and children in the middle east? You eat up statistics that say it's only 40% as radioactive as whole uranium, well how dangerous is whole uranium, and how dangerous is 40% of that? I really don't care if you're not concerned with the risks, hard to believe there's so many assholes here that think american soldiers are so easily disposable. I haven't heard one good argument out of any of you. You all say "the government tests say it's relatively safe" Then why do they lie about it, and why are they now saying they're "trying to use it less" ? Maybe your feeble minds just can't comprehend the possibility of our country commiting genocide.
