Default victorymike@Ann Arbor-Frankenmuth-SLSD-Manistee-Mt. Pleasant-Home 7/17-7/19

Friday morning at 1am we left Ann Arbor topless and doorless for Frankenmuth. After a nap we attended our daughter's baton twirling final class and headed West across 46 to Newaygo State Park for a few geocaches.

Then on to SLSD. It was cold with intermittant sprinkles the entire way. We arrived at 7pm, aired down, flagged, and hit the dunes.
Overlooking Lake Michigan

Wheeling in the trees not far from the shores of Lake Michigan.

It took me 4 tries to make it up Test Hill. I swore I rode the rev limiter in 2nd gear last time I was here (3 years ago). Now I have a lift and larger tires so now it is 1st gear. Live and learn...
A faroff view of test hill.

Finally made it to the top.

More dunes ahead of test hill.

Others atop test hill, but we saw lots of failed attempts too.

Mini-Goddess was a bit frazzled by the time we made it to the top (when I figured out that 1st gear only thing). I hit one of those bumps at the bottom WAY too hard and fast on one of my failed attempts but the rig and my welds held up fine.

Enjoying the view from that top.

The highest point.

Running the dunes.

Hang on Mini-Goddess.

Somebody gave up.

The last dune is pretty steep.

Wheeling family.

We left the dunes around 2015 and headed North and it sprinkled on us right away. It was actually sunny while we were wheeling tho. Spent the night at my Dad's near Manistee. Then headed to Mount Pleasant for a class reunion Saturday night. Then back home on Sunday. 650+ mile trip with no doors or top. It sprinkled on us and was much colder than expected byt, all in all, it wasn't too bad of a trip. And the Jeep ran great the whole time.

The giant mouse trap was in Newaygo State Park, along with a few other very nicely built caches. I'd really like to go back and spend a weekend camping/caching there.

This is the first time I left my top and doors at home, weather be damned. Before I always had a back seat to stash my top in and the doors went behind the rear seat. Now I have Mini-Goddess and we were loaded with bags behind the seat...visited my dad and then her mom and grandma and went to her high school reunion...requires clothes and such.

I found out that the 5 gallon Jerry can I mounted on the side, behind the passenger front wheel, directs water towards the passenger's butt without the door on. But I stayed dry so it was no big deal, lol.

I work for the next 2 weeks and then we'll be taking the Jeep up to the Porkies for a weeklong backpacking trip. Then we'll spend another week caching/camping/hiking/wheeling past Copper Harbor at the tip of the Keweenaw, in the Huron Mountains, and on Drummond Island.

You always post neat stuff up after your trips(bomber crash, rocket launch, etc.). Can you take them a couple weeks earlier so I can plan some of it to mine instead of having to wait a year? j/k

Have a great trip and I look forward to your pics as always!

Glad you stayed mostly dry on your "topless" adventure too! If you had to call it a topless wet t-shirt trip it wouldn't sound as good.
