The references to "2 pound frozen ham sliced" are to the sizes of the packaging. Press reports suggesting that the Recovery Act spent $1.191 million to buy "2 pounds of ham" are wrong. In fact, the contract in question purchased 760,000 pounds of ham for $1.191 million, at a cost of approximately $1.50 per pound.

The Recovery Act funds referenced in press reports allowed states to purchase ham, cheese and dairy products for these food banks, soup kitchens and food pantries that provide assistance to people who otherwise do not have access to food. This program will help reduce hunger of those hardest hit by the current economic recession.

I was referring to how this post developed. CC posted a quick bit of info, comments are made, people make assumptions and it snowballs from there

this is not about the price of ham. it's about how the hell can they spend $18 million on a website redo that can't report accurate and fully detailed spending.

Well, I guess $1.50 per pound isn't that bad after all.

Stans link has no food or pricing information that I can see.

I am wondering who in the gov't has a financial stake in CLOUGHERTY PACKING, LLC. They just made a lot of money even at $1.50 a lb.

Seems like if you wanted to "spread the wealth" you'd contract that PO out to several vendors.

Sounds like a lot of pork. HAHAHAHA
