Default Dual Sport tires...

Anyone ride DS? I'm looking for a 60/40 tire... currently I'm running Kenda K270's front and rear, but the rear doesn't ride great on the street, sucks in the rain, plus it's getting pretty square.

K270

I've got a heavy bike, (KLX650) so it's never going to be good in the sand and mud, but I don't want to limit myself to dirt roads either. I'm fine with the aggressiveness of the K270's, but maybe better quality tires will make the diff.

Any experiance or thoughts on the:

Pirelli MT 21

Dunlop d606

Continental TKC80

alot of people on thumper talk really highly about their perelli tires. i dont have any personal experance with the enduro tires. dunlops wear pretty wel but they look a little aggresive for streets. i personally like kendas alot. that kenda tire dont look to bad for the street maybe just not what u would want in the dirt. what bike is the tires going on?

I ran the Pirelli's you have up there on my old KTM 125 SX for awhile. Ran them as a trail only tire and they were real nice. No idea how they would be on the rode though..

I have trials tires on back of my bikes which hate pavement - most pirellis are DOT approved these days...

from what i see in the pics you've posted before dont you just run the trails tires for the rare pavement crossing and plated just for the general run down the road to the next trail?

Sorta - that's exactly what I do, riding-wise - and the occasional ride around my house on dirt roads. Trials tires are really, really soft, and on the road the feel "squirmy" (and technically ILLEGAL)

The trials tires we have are NOT DOT approved - the main reasons I run them on our bikes:
1. the silly amount of traction you get offroad
2. way less trail damage (they grip with the knobs by flexing, not by digging like a knobby)

Seriously - running a trials tire offroad is like cheating. If I botch crossing a downed tree and get my rear wheel stuck behind the trunk, feathering the clutch in 1st lets the tire grab the bark and pop you right over. On hardpack, my knobbie would just break loose in any gear if I got on it - the the trials tire, it now lofts the front tire easily.

Trials tires are a blast on the back of a dirtbike - but they suck on the road.

Going with a Maxxis M6006 rear, unsure of a front yet.
