Are you talking about a rear wheel drive 3.8 or a FWD one. If I remember correctly it will not bolt up to the 2.9 or 4.0 liter trans, but will bolt up to the 2.3, 2.5, or 3.0 trans.

I happen to have a 3.8 engine and a 3.0 trans out in the pole barn, so I can check to see if they match at all for you...and the only real difference between the FWD and RWD 3.8s was the balance shaft in the FWD, not that it really matters...but the biggest question, why do you want to do this?

no the 3.0 and 3.8 will not bolt to a 2.9 or 4.0L trans

3.0-3.8 same bell

2.9-4.0L same bell

Just replace the 2.9L with a 4.0L....
