Nice, but why not go with a Linux distro like Ubuntu that's fairly polished already?

Cus alot of people don't use Linux cus they say it isn't easy to use.

So google is playing off it and Tweeking it out to make it user friendly.

Which is what Ubuntu does.

My wife uses it on her laptop and has no problems. I installed it because she'd crash windows on a daily basis.

ANY competition for Microsoft is a good thing as it will force them to improve their product, or at least make it more stable for the long run.

It's all about the apps, there are many apps that will never be web based. There are also many people that will not trust their data to the web cloud much less Google. The prediction of Microsoft's death has been many, and has not happened yet, and Google Chrome OS for Netbooks, will not ring in it's death either.

I'd like to know where you downloaded a copy of Google Chrome OS?

I've messed with ubuntu, and yes, if you just use it for basic functions, it is quite easy and nice. But if you are an advanced user, it does get old having to compile everything and use command line often to use most non mainstream applications and accessories.

As much as I like the idea, using it would be like selling your soul to google. They will have access to EVERYTHING on your cpu if the End license is as anything else of theirs.

So you would sign all your pictures, work notes, finances, home (personal) letters, etc... over to Google for them to make money on?

When you use and store your documents on their Google Documents program they now own the rights to use ALL of it as they see fit. NO security from the company itself, yes it may be secure to the outside world, but google will use all of it.

Rockstar,

Are you sucking Googles cawk? I have never witnessed someone so set on bickering about absolutely meaningless things as you are right now.

Who fucking cares if Google gets it, or Linux, or even Microsoft. I just want something stable that can run my computer without having to jump through a bunch of fucking hoops to get it or selling my first born to pay for it.

Ill CONSIDER it after a few years of end-users praises of it. Everything free has some type of catch these days, right?

I will post my prediction as this will not put a significant reduction to Microsoft's market share. When you look at market share, you have to look at the ENTIRE market. Chrome OS is (at least initially) meant to compete in just the netbook market. It will be interesting, and have some share, but people still like the comfort of WXP, and there are always netbooks selling with linux on them. Then there's always W7.

Also, KartRacer, I used Linux (as an administrator and desktop user) for a number of years and didn't have to compile anything I didn't want to. The only reason to compile is if you need some bleeding edge feature for an application that isn't available in your distro. Running Debian Unstable or Ubuntu's development branch should give you a pretty close approximation to the newest and shiniest apps without ANY compiling. The good thing about open source is that you even have the OPTION to compile to get the latest features. If it were MS or Apple, you'd be waiting until their next release cycle, and paying out the ass for it.
