Default Fun day at Fort Custer

After so many years in evergreens, this hole deciduous thing is still new Weif and I hit up the Fort Custer Rec Area yesterday with the bikes for a ride. Had an absolute BLAST. Really can't imagine why I gave up biking for so long

On the way out. Clouds were threatening in spots, but we never saw rain.

I get to mash ALL the hills with the SS

Glad to see the park has some additions like the log bridges, blocks buried in some of the sandier uphills for traction, log piles, etc...

And this particular loop was called crazy beaver, so you KNOW we had to ride it

Riding through some of these fields, the grass was at least 5ft high. Thank god for Deep Woods Off

We were on the Red loop most of the time and rode half of it twice. T'was an awesome day.

The main entrance to Fort Custer State Park is off M-96 just east of Augusta.

Yes, yes it is. But Weif and I are liking it also because we can do it together around her work schedule. It's harder for her to get away for wheeling weekends.

Remember to toss a couple cans of brew in the camelback. Gotta carb load when you are out on the trails.

Glad you enjoyed Custer. Definitely one of the nicer trails around. Next time check out the Green Loop. Its my favorite over the Red. Did you ride through Grannies Garden on the Red Loop?

Yep, went through Grannies Garden twice actually cause the first time through was so fun. Even took Weif through on the second run. She had to walk a few hills since she isn't at the point yet of being able to carry enough speed, but still had a fun.

Will have to check out the Green next time for sure.

I grew up in Galesburg - Augusta and have never ridden the trails in FT Custer. I really want to go out there and ride.

Rode the green last night and you're right, it kicked ass! I loved the switch back climb, the multi jump down hills, and the uphill log piles

Then Weif and I split because I wanted to bomb the red before leaving and she was too tired (she just rode part of the yellow). I'm really liking this place for quick after work rides.
