If you are going to get a diesel make sure it is turbo'd. I promise you will not like the non turbo trucks. If you do get a non turbo plan on putting a banks or ats kit on it. You will not believe the difference. I know, I have been there. Just ask collin.

if you get an idi change the downpipe from the turbo. it's smashed and is like an inch thick. throwing a 3 inch downpipe on there really opens em up.

agreed as soon as my stroker dies its gettn a cummins only 180,000 more mile till then if your gonna buy a diesel truck a ford with a 7.3l is your best bet but get the powerstoke not the old idi. My father had a 96 with a 7.3 and it had 360,000 miles on the same engine and trans when he sold it and it still ran like a champ. He hauled the trailer to the race track every weekend. Id get the Ford unless you like swappin trannies on a dodge

Default Go with the cummins

Cummins----------------Power joke
Cylinders I6 ---------------- V8
main bearings 7 ---------------- 5
glow plugs NOPE ---------------- YUP

You can get the Cummins in the f-750 and F-650, 3 companies make conversion kits to put the Cummins in the ford. The 47re is the best transmission when properly built. They put them behind the dmaxs and because the Allison cant handle the power. Ford transmission are a joke. Cummins is a medium duty engine put in a light duty truck. Who buys a truck because it looks good? Lol my girl friend would but then again sheís doesnít tow anything . If you want true tow rig but a dodge before 1998 !/2 between 1989 and 1998 they we all mechanical Cummins before 1994 get better gas mileage 1994 and later can make more power either way you have a 1,000,000 mile engine.

Wait till you follow me down to the badlands. YOU WILL want a turbo. But mine gets lower mileage.

I had a 92 IDI non turbo 4x4 F250 with 362K on it and it towed my jeep across the state just fine. I just couldn't afford to drive it when diesel got pricey so I sold it. I wish I wouldn't have.

Dodge trannys bring the suck. And most of the time the truck falls apart long before anything else does. Ive had a few. I dont like replacing trannys at 90,000 miles.

180k, tow heavy, cross country trips. U-joint, wheel bearing, brakes, lift pump, tires, shocks.
Tranny? still pulls and shifts strong.

I think you are a little miss informed the 47re is one of the greatest autos of all time, when built properly nothing can come close to the power handling ability. thatís why they put them behind dmaxs because a built Allisonís cant handle the power. In stock form they need help but when built they cant be touched!

With the right amount of $$ just about any trans can become bullet proof.

94+ powerstrokes are turbo. 24v cummins have lift pump probs., and i've heard of the 6.2&6.5 liter chevy's having fuel problems aswell.
