They said on Channel 4 this morning that the 18 year old was the 14 year olds boyfriend. Not really that uncommon, think high school senior dating a high school freshman. Not that I agree with it, just saying it happens.

It's a bummer that the dumbass driver had to take 4 of his friends with him in his stupid decision. Four other kids paid the price because the driver couldn't wait for 5 minutes at a train crossing.

You don't know that the 4 non-drivers weren't telling him to go and he was hesitant to go, thus cutting it close when he finally went and therefore getting hit.

I suppose that could be the case.

However, there's only one set of controls in most vehicles, and whether they were telling him or not, he still made the conscious choice to drive in front of a train.

Two of the teenagers were students of my daughter. She teaches high school math in Taylor. It's a very sad situation.

I saw on the news where the grandmother of the 14 year told her to come home instead of going to the beach, that's why they were at the crossing at that time. I'm not blaming the grandmother, just imagine the guilt she's feeling right now though.

I can't wait for the piece of shit who was driving that cars mother gets the hell sued out of her. She gave the keys of her car to her 18 year old son knowing he had his license suspended the day before. That bitch and her son killed four people.

Sucks...

I was on a train once that hit a car. it was a geo metro wagon. We were going through Nebraska at the time, middle of no where in the middle of the night. The trail was traveling around 60 mph. The trail hit the car right behind the driver's seat and ripped the car about half way across the roof. The guy survived with a few broken ribs, a broken arm and a broken leg. We had to sit on the tracks for 2 hours while we waited for a new conductor.

it WAS a ford fusion.....

and here is the video of it happening

http://www.freep.com/article/2009071...ar-train-crash

Quote:
On the right is surveillance video from Canton Police of the fatal crash that killed five on Thursday. Killed in the crash were 14-year-old Jessica Sadler, who lived blocks from the accident; her boyfriend, 18-year-old Eddie Gross of Taylor; 19-year-old Sean Harris from the Detroit area, his 21-year-old brother, Terrence Harris of Stafford, Va., and Dan Broughton, 19.

Twelve seconds into the video, you will see a white SUV approach from the left and stop at the intersection. Nineteen seconds later you will see the black Ford Fusion, driven by Broughton, approach from the left and swerve around the stopped SUV. The train travels through the intersection a split second later, killing 5 passengers in the car.

Because of trees obstructing the intersection, you are not able to see the actual impact.

Given the small size of the video, we recommend watching it in full screen to see the events. The full screen button is on the far right of the player.

We must all go through a rite of passage and it must be physical, it must be painful, and it must leave a mark.
