Very sad for all the families involved.
From the freep:
Four young Downriver residents and a Virginia man were killed today after they drove around a crossing gate in Canton Township and were hit by an Amtrak train.

One victim was identified by her mother as Jessica Sadler, 14, of Wayne, who was staying with her grandmother nearby the crash scene.

The four others were young men: an 18-year-old and a 20-year-old from Taylor, a 19-year-old from Woodhaven, and a 21-year-old from Stafford, Va., according to a police press release at 9:30 p.m.

Family had been notified, but the names were still being withheld to allow for extended family members to be reached, police said

i feel sorry for the parents...but... once again proving teenage idiot superhero thinking that they can beat a train across the tracks...can't feel sorry for stupid, and if you try and beat a train...you will always lose.

They were from downriver. Young girls hang out with older boys all the time. It's culturally accepted there. Just lookin for a baby mama.

Unless you win. Then you don't lose. Your logic is flawed.

But no one ever made it?

You only hear about the ones that didnt make it. So there has to be some that do, right?

As the father of an 18 year old that lives near there I was a little worried when I first heard about this.

Yea, but you have to give praise to all of the ones that DID beat the train. The odds are stacked in the favor of the person trying to win. Hell, trains aren't that fast and you can see them for miles.

I bet for every dead grandmother, there are 5000 people that did in fact beat that train.

To the point of identifying the body, I'm sure she had dentures that could be tracked back to the dentist that made them, or, if they were real, they could match it up against dental records. Some real CSI shit.

Sad. If they had made it that 14 year old may have ended up doing something just as crazy or wise up and found safer friends. Life is a crap shoot. We all have done some really stupid stuff and basically keep it to ourselves in thanks of no regret. Some of us simply got lucky...........

I'm a long way from being a teen, but in my youth the train was beaten many times. Not saying it is a good choice, but it was common for us living close to the tracks.

The only time I ever crossed the tracks with the gates down was in Burton, on Bristol Road right by Tiger Auto... They would come down every once in a while with no train in sight.

Sad, but really... They were pretty stupid for trying.
