When I moved down here, a few people told me as long as it wasn't going to be Akron/Youngstown/Cleveland area it would be OK. I dunno though, haven't been up there to see for myself.

Downtown Cleveland has many old historic buildings that are pretty cool to tour. I wouldn't move there to see them but they will certainly occupy a day of wandering around. We visited there for a weekend around Easter and here's an email a friend who lives in Cleveland sent me:

Cleveland in the late 1800’s & early 1900’s rivaled Chicago as one of the largest cities in the Midwest and became headquarters for many large US corporations – Railroads, Steel Mills, Oil Companies, etc. Consequently, banking became an important support industry at a time when every large company seemed to make gobs of money, so the banks built some beautiful headquarters buildings.

Federal Reserve of Cleveland - 1455 E. 6th St.
Keybank – NE Corner of Public Square
Huntington Bank – 917 Euclid Ave
Fifth Third Bank – 600 Superior Ave
National City Bank - 1375 E 9th St.
Cleveland Trust – SE Corner of Euclid & E 9th St.
Also:

The Arcade – 401 Euclid Ave, a neat 1880’s ornate arcade – now a Hyatt Hotel
BP Building on Euclid Ave facing Public Square
Terminal Tower – Train & Transit station – SW corner of Public Square
Cleveland Public Library – largest west of NYC - 325 Superior Ave
Theater District – 1400 Euclid Ave – 2nd largest theater district in USA. Ornate & beautifully restored

All of these are within a dozen or so blocks of each other; an easy walk.

We did about half of these in about 4 hours. We stayed east of town at a B&B that was pretty cool. About an hour east of Cleveland is a pretty nice wine country. There are 6 or 7 nice wineries that have nice tasting facilities. Pretty fun.

Worked in Westlake last year and had to relocate to the area. After re-locating, got transferred to IL just north of Chicago. I'm glad I got transferred. The area was OLD and is like one big retirement home. People drove like shit, even compared to MI. Never went to Cleveland proper, but it cannot even be close to Chicago. Good luck in your new job!

There are a few good local brew pubs there, make sure that you hit Great Lakes Brewery.

Cleveland is ok, in the summer... Worst part for you is it is 4-5 hours further away from all the wheeling spots you were close to in Cinci. The drive from Cleveland to Cinci sucks. The stretch from Columbus to Cinci is the worst. It is almost as bad as driving through Georgia. But, any way you look at it, you are employed and got a raise. I would expect Cleveland to be slightly cheaper for living expenses.

Enjoy man. I just left there after 2 years. Couldnt stand it anymore as a single guy.

If you have a family its not too bad.

West 6th street downtown is the warehouse district and is the fun bar area. East 4th is the other fun bar are downtown.

The summers are awesome with the lake (get a boat) and weather, but the winters could be the worst I've ever experienced. I dont evny you! Haha

Wellsville is about an hour from Cleveland and is the best wheeling in Ohio in my opinion
