Wow...I don't mean to throw gasoline on the fire, but wouldn't you think a democratic Governor would get more out of a democratic president and congress??

My stepdad just got laid off and now has to move back east. No wonder I work in Iraq.

I'm not leaving, I'll hang around and hopefully when jobs stop going away and people finish leaving I'll find work.

I read the article, what I also saw was that this has been a 10 year slide. That would mean it started before Granholm or Obama had anything to do with it......just saying.

Make sure you look at Engler and Bush (OK, even Clinton) when pointing fingers.

I saw an analogy last week that I thought made a lot of sense. I will do my best to relay it here.

The economy is like a 747.

If a 747 loses all power in mid flight, it will plummet to the earth. Let us say that it will nose dive, for this analogy.
As the jet is diving, the pilot restarts all of the engines and regains full power.
Even though full power has been restored, the 747 will still be heading nose down towards the earth. There is no instant upward bounce. The pilot still needs to struggle to level off the jet before he can regain altitude. It takes time to level off and head back up, same as the gigantic beast we call the economy. It takes time to level off and start back up.

Yea, I know this does not help those losing thier jobs, just pointing out that even though we do not see huge improvements over night does not mean things aren't getting better.

Our economy (as measured in job loss) is coming to the end of a 10 year slide downward, according to this article. Once it levels off hopefully it will start heading up.

Thats funny. While the rest of the nation was doing good from 02 (about the bush administration was warning that fannie may and freddy mac were hurting us in the long run) till recently the rest of the nation was picking back up. Michigan never really recovered.

It may have been Engler that pushed the ball down hill, but Granholm, in her "5 years" certainly has not been able to "fire up the engines."
If anything were nose diving harder than we ever had before. Thats ok though. Im sure the indie film industry and prisoners will straighten things out for us.

granholm has not had a single idea other than "add another tax" or "increase government payroll". she, instead of leading by example and getting down to work, she has held her failure over the occupants of this state. expanding welfare roles to the level of absurdity, failing to create a viable budget yet still increasing the state governing payroll for her friends, family and special interest connections.

They predict job losses will begin to slow at the start of 2010 and halt by the end of that year, assuming the national economy and the auto industry begin to rebound.

A prediction from two U of M economists based on a very big "IF".

Yeah that has meaning. You want a prediction? I'll give you a prediction...

My prediction is that when the other 94% of the $787 billion goes out into the market we will see inflation that will make people long for the Carter years. I predict we will see 20% unemployment in Michigan, easily.

Who is going to buy a new car when it costs at least $75k to buy because the dollar is worthless?

It's not about either party being right or wrong, they are both wrong. The government is failing and the failure is coming from both sides of the aisle. It's been going on since the civil war and it continues today.

It's about power and control. Both parties in the government are taking more of both and they are taking it from YOU. So please stop arguing about which party is to blame. You are wasting your time while your future is being sold off for political gain.

Edit:

It's as if he is channeling my thoughts. Read....

Granholm isn't qualified to fly a plane either.

We can thank Granholm for the downfall of Michigan and I believe it will get worse with her choice to bring in the film industry here that is actually costing tax payers, I think around 16,000 dollars per job brought here, and the prisoners from Cali, that woman needs to go

Michigan's 747 engines are started again and now it can fly into the ground even faster But laughing aside you are right all this crap started a long time ago, I would say right around the Toyota boom when everyone was rushing out to buy a Camery because they are so reliable and the next thing you know everything we bought was made in a foreign country. It's not just Michigan it's the whole country that is hurting...I have been talking to friends and family out of state and CAL, NC, FL, NV are all feeling the pinch. Time to sponge off the Government and collect your welfare ladies! Better find side work like dealing drugs, fencing stolen merchandise, what ever you have to do to survive because it's only going to get worse. I am actually considering shooting up to Alaska or Canada and look for work either on the pipe line in Alaska or the diamond mines in Canada and live out of a 30ft travel trailer rent free.

Part of the deal with the film industry filiming here is that they have to hire local talent, the specifics whether its grips, actors, electrcians, i am not sure but i sat through a presentation on the subject a few months back. Also, just them being here brings business. caterings, shopping, supplies.

I believe it was a good move offering tax incentives. It gets people to our state and if they are here they have to spend money.
