Default 2.9 cracked head

i have a bronco II with a 2.9 im afraid i may have a cracked head, its making a lot of noise under the valve covers. although the radiator was holding pressure at rest it seems to be inexplicably loosing coolant and i change the oil less than a week ago and its full of all kinds of shit. im getting a little worried since i really dont have the money to replace the motor. i could put another 2.9 in but i figure a 4.0 would make the swap worth the time and hassle.

I'd heavily consider the 4.0L, It's almost the same thing.

The 2.9L is notorious for head problems, on top of other reliability issues, I have never had good luck with 2.9L's.

I would highly reccomend if you plan to replace it that you swap in a 4.0. Another 2.9 is only going to give you another cracked head before long. As for the swap, I would find it easiest to pick up a rotted or wrecked Ranger or Explorer with a 4.0 that you can use as a donor, and the rest of the donor truck can be parted to recoup a large chunk of your investment.
