1999 F-250 Transmission Issues

I was driving to work on Friday morning and my trucks transmission started leaking fluid. It was leaking so bad from the front seal, it actually caught fire from hitting the exhaust Y pipe. I'm wondering what would have caused this? I didn't have any issues leading up to this point. The fluid looked good but smelled burnt.

this would be the 5th 99 F-250 i have seen with a leaking front seal. my guess is it's a common problem.

pump seal. Not a common problem that I know of. Atleast not any more common than any other transmission.

Yeah I'm thinking it's just the seal. The fluid looked good but smelled a little burnt. I'm thinking I was low on fluid and it build too much pressure and blew the front seal.

The front pump seal is a weak link on these transmissions, as they were on the older E4OD's as well. It's nothing to be surprised about or concerned with, just replace it. And while your at it look at an external trans. filter kit.
