Wow that sucks. They did that to some trails over by my cabin that alot of poeple used to injoy, but they were not dnr trails they were old logging trails and alot of the douche bags up there just dump shit everywhere like old fridgerators, toilets hell I even seen a burned out Cherokee back where we used to injoy a huge sand pit. So basicly it was a few jackasses that ruined it for everyone...................

My family has been living up there for more than 30 years. Most of our family has property or cabins. Some live there full time. We really enjoy the area.

So what's with this sudden trail block? The state can't find anything more productive to do? If it's money then keep the trails open and charge more for orv stickers so we can enjoy this states full potental. If I am not mistaken, that could well be National Forest land and the DNR would not have jurisdiction. But then, I do not know exactly where your families cabin is.

Contact the local National Forest office, and the local DNR. Find out who has jurisdiction and the reason for closure.

Were they marked trails? Designated roads? Legal closures?

Go to the local township offices and get the platte maps for the area to identify the trails.

I know it is a bit of work, but you may be able to get the closure reversed if it was not properly done.

You can also put the information on glfwda.com
They have dealt with these kinds of issues before and have people willing and able to offer help. But you need to start the ball rolling by positively identifying the trails.

It would be a good idea to take pictures and or video of the trail beyond the berm and fallen tree as well as the blockade itself. This will more than likely show a huge difference in the damage caused by them blocking the trail versus the normal use the trail recieves. Might help down the road if anything becomes of it.

I thought all was good at least til the Manistee Forest plan came out this fall.
I'm assuming the affected area is east of the north/south fire road just west of Walkup Lake, the Condon, Ken O Sha Highbanks lake area?

Folks are just seeing the beginning of the closures.
I think you'll be TRULY amazed (disheartened, peeved?) when you see what precious little will be left.

I hate to sound like a stereotypical salesman, but . . .
GLFWDA is the only organization in Michigan that regularly submits substantive comments in an attempt to defend our two tracks from NFS Projects that call for their closure. They are an all volunteer association of wheelers who's entire budget comes from membership dues. If you like open two tracks in Michigan, please consider joining, maybe even offering to help out. The more members = more money and volunteers = more accomplished.

Sorry about the 'pitch' but they're the only chance we have and most of our fellow wheelers don't seem to understand the severity of the situation.

I've seen the map of the Huron and while I don't know the area, it seems a lot was left with only some seasonal closures on connectors due to spring runoff. Is the Manistee to be totally different?

Have you been to the Crystal Valley area recently?
It serves as a pretty good indication of what the rest of the Forest will look like.
