Liberals aren't allowed to do that, If something works and you try something new and it dosen't work the liberal mind set is don't use what is proven to work try something else, continual fail.

The problem with that is Christians will not cut off your head if you don't join em
Christans reguard their wives as equals not dogs to cover up and abuse, beat and also kill.
You can go to one of these countries and try your equality on them and see how far it gets you.
To your amazement you may find yourself not welcome and you would see how intolerant they would be to your beliefs and probably get your head cut off.
You may find Christianity offence to you but as Christians, they would allow you to keep your head and not be offended as you bash us. Tolerent would't ou say.
Try to promote something different as far as religion or no religion and see how far it gets you in any other non-Christian country
I'd say we have it very good here-USA. But we have people saying or crying foul or unfair, what about me? I don't believe in it so you should not teach it or tell nobody as it may offend others.

If you go back in history when there were countries with Christianity as an official religion you will find the same kind of brutality and intolerance of people who were not following the prescribed path. This is one of the very reasons Europeans came to the shores of North America. To flee religious persecution.

And the middle ages are full of atrocities commited in the name of Christianity. Beheadings were the quickest of punishments, but certainly not the worst.

Where was the Pope and the Vatican when Hitler was trying to exterminate whole races?

Roman Catholics are still intolerant of women in certain positions within the church. They still do not accept a womans control over her own body. They are still repressive.

Yes, Christianity has changed, and for the better in most cases. But it still turns a blind eye to many pressing problems in the world.

I was raised Catholic. Went to Catachism. I was even an alter boy for a time. The priest from my church still knows my wife and I when we do see him. He officiated our wedding and my mother is still a regular in the church. He is also a very tolerant man and accepting of all other religions.
I left the church at a young age (mid teens) when I realized the hypocrisy of the politics involved with the Roman Catholic heirarchy.

I am not offended by or against any religion. I am offended by and against what people do in the name of religion. This is one of my main reasons for not being religious. Hamtramck gets their call to prayer for Muslims, which is utter bullshit IMO. I say let some Christians get some stuff like that too.

This seems like a contradiction to me.

Grabbing life by the horns shouldn't mean finding a crutch to help you.

Grab life by the horns on your own. Make up your own mind that you are going to be an upstanding person and follow common law. Make up your own mind that you are going to be the best you can be.

You don't need the crutch of religion to do that.

Once you have found youself, then if you want, go find a path that suits you.

Personally I have found my path in life without the help of religious dogma. May not work for everybody, but it has worked for me.

Haven't you ever heard the church bells?

I have heard church bells in my neighborhood all my life.

Of course, those that live in more rural areas may not hear the bells.

I have been woken up early on Sundays by the church bells from the church on Pinecrest and Drayton. Was not pleased either.

I'd rather hear church bells than the same shit suicide bombers respond to in my neighborhood.

Oh, and in the Oak Park and Southfield areas, there have been concessions to the more Orthodox Jews over the years. One of the reason there are tunnels on I-696 between Coolidge and Southfield road is to accomodate the Orthodox Jew going to the Synagogue on the holy days when they can not drive.

That was a lot of money spent for a small religious group. Not to mention the route of the highway was also determined due to the locations of said Synagogues.

When is the last time a Catholic Church has paid property taxes? Anyone seen the church at Metro Parkway and Schoenherr? All that prime land tax free. The rest of have to make up the shortfall.

Why should my tax dollars indirectly support religious venues?

Pretty intolerant of you. Thier call to prayer is just that, a call to prayer. Not a call to Jihad.

There are people in this world that use Catholic teachings as a call to violence as well. Given your logic we should silence the church bells.

But, in the eyes of many they should not have the same rights in this country and those that follow other religious beliefs.

p.s. Many Muslims in this country are natural born U.S. citizens with know ancestoral ties to the middle east. Just saying.

It is intolerant, and I could honestly care less. I have the right to be intolerant if I feel the need.

If you ask me, I don't think any religious groups should be given anything.

But, if one group is going to get something, no one should be blocked out from that.

Muslims, Jews, etc. get their religious crap taken care of. Christians get the back seat and it's bullshit.

It's all or nothing IMO.

Catholics have never gotten the back seat in this country. It may seem like it these days, but they still don't.

What you are seeing is rhetoric from some who are unhappy about another group getting something that the primary group feels is thiers and thiers alone.

In the debate about the Muslim call to prayer in Hamtrameik, I don't recall any counter proposals from the Muslims to silence Church bells if thier call was not allowed.

just jumping in here. First of all there are too many denominations that are just the expression of man's interpretation of God within the Christian belief. Second, all of them fall short of the true understanding and screw it up somewhere.

PeteC
I'm sorry the Catholic church offended you. I was raised Catholic but it was half assed. Now even in the non denominational church I have seen the same hierarchy and the way that man exploits their authority.
God is not a respecter of persons and there is no one that can be closer to God than anyone else. That's the exact reason Jesus Christ came, everyone was worth it.
Jesus ministered to a slut and a whore and expressed the same love for them as He did for His disciples.

But the main question is: What other "religion" gives hope? Catholicism is a denomination just like the baptist and christian reformed. But what hope do the Jews give? Follow some 300 or so laws and if your good enough at that, then you can go to heaven? For the Muslim, martyrdom and receive your virgins. But even that is if allah wills it. Mormons, no guarantee of your own planet to be a god over. And the Joho's are living heaven on earth right now because the 144,000 have already been chosen.
(yeah, mormons and jahova witness' are not a denomination) This is a much clearer example of how much MAN can really throw things off.

It is not a matter of how. It is a matter of when a religious war will break out on USA soil.
At least the religious will go killing in the name of their god.....:shrugs:

Those are my thoughts.

Possibly. I'm not religious, so I don't care either way. It just appears to me by the news that Christians do get beat up on a bit with what they can or can't display, and can or can't have.

The minority religious groups appear to get what they want.

Whether this is true or not depends on who you ask.

Whoever it is getting the short end of the stick doesn't matter to me. If one group gets something, the rest should get similar stuff.

Like I said, it's all or nothing. There should be no favorites when it comes to this.

Of course a Christian can drink and party, but why? As most Christians they probably already did that and saw that that was not good, It was fun for awhile, then you lose your job because you get to work(hangover), can't pay your bills(money needed for beer, drugs), lose your house and maybe now you live in a cardboard box on the street, how much fun you having now?

I can live my life for Christ and do good for others, help out at my church, donate my time and money to the needy and show others that being a Christian is not as bad as you might think

Stupidity has nothing to do with it. Name calling shows that you have no credibility.

But, I digress from the original topic again in order to defend my opinion against ludicrous charges of intolerance and the attitiude of, if you don't like my way then GTFO and STFU.

I personally do not feel that the lobby of a City Hall is the right place for religious kiosks, political kiosks, issue kiosks or sales kiosks. City hall is a place to conduct city business, it should remain just that.
This opinion is not about seperating church and state or choosing one over the other, it is about the proper place and time.

Religious orders have thier venues. They also have constitutional rights to make thier presence known in a variety of ways and places. City Hall should not be one of those venues.

Yes you are correct they fled for that reason, but here all can practice thier own religion.
In the middle ages it was the Christians against the muslims and I believe the beheadings you talk about was the muslims beheading Christians for not denoucing Christ to accept allah. That was what happened then and still to this day.

The pope? He was hiding lie everybody else, trying to stay alive.
You talk about a woman's control over her own body? Do you mean abortion? A womans right to choose? To murder?

Yes Christianity has changed, for the better. And they do more around the world to help the needy than this government or any other government.

You also talk about hipocrisy. I believe that we are all hipocritical of one thing or another. As my Pastor put it, we always have room for one more, no are perfect, so accept others for thier faults and move on, what is the big deal? Being so critical of others can not do you any good and you can't do anything to change it.

As far as you being offended by what others do in the name of religion, Ask your self why do you get offended? It is the religious type that get offended. It is all about having a Relationship with Jesus Christ.

And it would be other religions that would the intolerent ones.
Christians will tell you about it and if you do not want to hear it, thats fine, that is being tolerent. I do not understand how you could think that Christianity is intolerent.

And again what is the problem with prayer in public? or public places? What are you afraid of? Will it offend you to observe this type of behavor? Sounds a bit hipocritical don't you think.
